I have a 40" Sharp LC-40LE550U that I bought from Best Buy in July 2013. The TV has been working flawlessly until Saturday. The TV is past its warranty period.
The TV is on, but the display itself does not appear to show anything. I am not sure of how LED TV's work, but it seems like there is a "no input signal" message moving around the screen (like a screen-saver) when I get very close to the display. Maybe the TV is backlit and it's backlight is what went out? Any ideas? |

There isn't some kind of "Picture Off" button is there? My Sony has one on the remote, which just blanks the screen but leaves the TV on. I've accidentally hit it before...
The backlight probably died though. Looking at the Amazon reviews on your set, it looks like it has a higher than average failure rate. You didn't buy a Square Trade extended warranty or anything? A 4 or 5 year plan can be had pretty cheap. |

I would first check your input is for the correct source (ie HDMI1 , HDMI2, etc). If that doesn't correct it then check the hdmi cables, both from source to the display. They may have been nudged by dusting or the cables themselves may have gone south.
I occasionally receive the "no input signal" and the 2 above solutions correct it. |

I started troubleshooting the TV. I removed the back panel just to take a peek at the layout of the components. Me be inexperienced in TV repair, I can't seem to locate the LED inverter. I will do some more research and eventually locate it.
However, I noticed that the faint bit of output from the TV's "no input detected" alert comes on only when using HDMI inputs. After noticing this, I connected an older DVD player via component video and the TV recognized the signal and I could see image of the disc playing but still with no backlight. Could it be that the main-board is the problem and not the LED backlight? I hope a TV technician on this forum can point me in the right direction. |

This is why I won't ever buy another Sharp TV again. my first HDTV was a Sharp, and it took 3 months for it to stop working properly. Anytime i lost power, the video board had to get reset. I bought the extended warranty, and they said I had to deal with Sharp for the first year.. (I know.. why pay for it when they wont do anything) .. so the day after a year passed, I called the store up and said okay, fix it or take it back... 2 weeks later, they called and said to bring it in, and they'll just give me a replacement.
Never ever again. will I get a Sharp. |

One thing I didn't look. Is this 40le550u "Sharp branded" or an "Aquos"?.
Aquos are made by Sharp. And all of them say "Aquos". If it says Sharp, and Aquos is nowhere...that means it is branded. Which means...somebody else made it, like Funai or TCL. Never buy Sharp branded. |

I'm not really sure exactly what you're seeing, but I had a seemingly similar experience with a 1-1/2 year old Insignia TV years back. In the middle of watching a film the screen went completely white, and that was that.
