Germany Fritz Lang's "The Tomb of Love" and "The Tiger of Eschnapur" - October 19,2012

Courtesy of Universum Film.

Quote:
Universe will release two more films on the high definition media and also offer Fritz Lang's "The Indian tomb" (Germany, France, Italy 1959) on BD on October 19. The currently last title was also produced in the 1950's in Germany and is the prequel to "The Indian tomb". This is "The Tiger of Eschnapur" also to a Fritz Lang film

these are the films that Eureka released on sd, and claimed they would come to blu after additional work. I really hope that turns out to be true. If not these releases could end up being the ones I get if they indeed have English subs.
Universum's "M" has English subs so hopefully these will too.

According to amazon.de there are no English subtitles. I'm not surprised because German films released in Germany are usually without foreign language subtitles (M being an exception). It's a shame and I don't know what the reason is (licensing issues? not worth the trouble?) There are great classic German films and I want to show it to my English-speaking wife or friends, but if they are not released in UK or US it's difficult. Me translating simultaneously is not really an option

Yes, Masters of Cinema announced a blu-ray edition in the future when they released the DVDs, but I haven't heard anything since. The films themselves are certainly not the best of Lang's oevre, his silents and noirs are much better. But they are visually stunning with Indian sets and such and they cry out for blu.

well, as i pointed out in the Sissi trilogy BLuray thread, there's still a way, if you can find the appropriate English subtitles for the Bluray in the net.
You can watch the Bluray and import external subtitles on the fly. (without having to rip the BLuray or anything)
Either with MPC on your pc, or with other media players in portable Bluray player (i'm not sure how the 2nd method is done, but I know the first one)

eg. I'm watching some Twilight Time Bluray releases that don't have subtitles, with external subtitles..

well the fact that the films are out in hd still gives me hope that they will eventually get released in an English speaking country at some point in time.
Hopefully Eureka will be releasing the bds in the UK.
I asked the insider in the Eureka thread a while back, but I think he was on vacation when I posted, and most likely didn't even see the post. I think I will pm him at this point because I really want to know if Eureka is going to be releasing this set on blu.

WOW! It seems that the film followed the Raiders of the Lost Ark example and has a golden-filter all over!!
I don't like it!
(also it seems that it has lost much detail. most evident in 1st and last screenshots)

Default Lang's Indian epic on blu-ray for English speakers

Morning

I was wondering where we were in the on-going saga of Fritz Lang's Indian epic on blu-ray. I am fairly sure I have seen viewed a blu-ray copy of the Tiger of Eschnapur with English subtitles (now lost to me), but in my search to replace it I have become confused and disorientated.
Does anyone know whether there are English-subtitled versions of Lang's two fine films The Tiger of Eschnapur and The Indian Tomb released on blu-ray? Such great works need to be seen in blu-ray.

Appreciative of any advice.
