As far as I know, D'ailly only does keep case/full slip editions. Haven't seen a lenti or steelbook from them. So safe to assume this will be a full slip keep case release.

I've never seen, or heard of this film. However, after reading the review for the US disc, it seems like something I would love. This is definitely a cool choice from D'ailly, who has previously released Moon, Lord of War, Kamikaze Girls, Million Dollar Baby, The Reader, Shine, The Road. More art-house. US disc released from Cinema Guild, UK disc from Artificial Eye. That right there is enough for me to blind buy. Has all the special features as the US disc, which is quite a lot.

Bleak and glacially paced, Béla Tarr's films are most definitely not for everyone, and The Turin Horse is especially moribund, a heavy allegory on the pointlessness of life and the finality of death. I'll be curious to rent this eventually on dvd, but I can't say that I'm a fan of Tarr, though he does have his avid followers and as they say 'YMMV'. It took me maybe 3 sittings to get through the 7 or so hours of Satantango and I wasn't really into it (though I love Rainer Werner Fassbinder's 15 hour Berlin Alexanderplatz, albeit broken up into maybe 3-4 episodes at a time). Werckmeister Harmonies was a lot better and less rambling IMO (and thankfully shorter at maybe 3+ hours) and had its moments, but I still didn't love it either. Family Nest, one of his earliest features was a lot more accessible and had a normal runtime, probably because he hadn't gone fully into making most of his shots run really really long (6 to 11 minutes according to Wikipedia). Many critics love Tarr's films but they're just not my thing.

Still, I'll take his films over Michelangelo Frammartino's pretentious Le Quattro Volte and those bits about the old man drinking tea brewed from the sweepings of what I'll call 'magical church dust' as apparently the only way he can continue to survive. That was probably the most boring film that I've ever seen.

I don't hate all slow-moving films, not by a long shot, but I have to feel my time was well-spent and that the filmmakers earned the runtime. I loved and would recommend the films: Raoul Ruiz's Mysteries of Lisbon (saw the 3 hour, wish the 4.5 hour cut was available English subbed), Kenneth Lonergan's Margaret, the long version of Bergman's Scenes from a Marriage, and (admittedly shorter, but still glacially-paced) Only Lovers Left Alive, Under the Skin, Kiyoshi Kurosawa's horror film Kairo (Pulse), Melancholia, and numerous others that might bore some of my friends. I thought that Mike Leigh's Mr. Turner was worth 2.5 hours of my time last night. Akira Kurosawa's Seven Samurai is an all-time favorite and a perfect example of a film that runs over three hours and yet feels like not a single shot is wasted. Maybe someday Criterion will get us the 5 hour director's cut of Until the End of the World so I can finally see it.

Turin Horse definitely requires patience. There's a lot of long takes. But the story is interesting and the basis of the film is mysterious. I liked it. I own the US version, but I will probably jump on this version if I like the packaging.

Very nice packaging on this one. If only I had liked the movie. It was an interesting experimental movie but I found it boring and monotonous and repetitive. Don't think I could sit through it again but glad that I made it through one viewing.

Well...there is a longer version I haven't seen. The critic reviews listed it as 272 minutes, the US Blu-ray and dvd list it as 257 minutes, which is the version I saw (dvd rental) so I guess it was longer than I remembered, but there was apparently a longer tv miniseries version which I'm now reading as possibly around 6 hours long, and I don't know that it's available with English subtitles anywhere (I do know a little bit of the Brazilian Portuguese language via some former co-workers, but am not fluent in Lisbon Portuguese). If there's more of that great film than I've seen, I'd love to see it/own it with English subs. I think I actually like the longer/mini-series version better on Ingmar Bergman's Scenes from a Marriage, though both versions are excellent. I still need to rent the German tv miniseries (I think it was multiple miniseries) Heimat to see how that is.

'boring and monotonous and repetetive' or as some might say 'typical Bela Tarr'. As I've probably said before, I liked Werckmeister Harmonies better than (twice as long, something like 7 hours or so) Satantango, which I found terminally boring despite some good cinematography. I'll get around to renting The Turin Horse eventually so I can get my "I survived the filmography of Bela Tarr" t-shirt (j/k, no such thing exists to my knowledge, but maybe he should mail them out free to people who sit through all his films). It does look like Dailly did a nice job on the packaging.
