I think it is time for Toshiba to look at throwing in the towel. They have lost so much ground since the PS3 was released and the longer they continue to deny that HD DVD failed, the more they hurt the chances of HDM mass adoption.
I would think the BF ratio is key that HD DVD has lost and all we keep hearing from the HD DVD backers at AVS and other sympathetic sites, is that sales will turn around here and things will change soon. It is always ends up being should of, could of, would of.... Just admit it, Toshiba, you lost, concede and let's all move forward. My guess is we will hear a major change in Warner release policy by the end of January which will give Toshiba no choice but to concede at that point. |

I mentioned before that Toshiba is not in full corporate spite mode. They will stay in this as long as they can to either ensure a stalemate or no victory by Blu. If Warner goes exclusive and Universal goes neutral only then we will be at the end game.

toshiba will admit defeat when its stockholders demand it and heads start rolling off their board of directors. given payoffs to universal and paramount, like 10 free movies with every heavily subsidized player, r&d on stupid things like TL-51, you gotta figure they lost close to a billion dollars this year.

I don't believe they ever will admit failure, they will release a dual format player and that'll be the last you hear about the format war from them, 2 years after the format war Toshiba will release a BD only player (if there is a cost differance) and thier PR Machine will try to repair any damage caused by the format war. that's how I see it playing out anyways...

they will never say the d word. they'll probably say they're ''limiting production'' of their players but ''still supporting the software''. then they'll quietly release a dual format player.
edit: damn you beta guy. I just read you post. Last edited by buckshot; 11-30-2007 at 08:04 PM. |

I think that when you start seeing them dumping players for, say $99.00. I think thats when they will be planing to get out of the market.

I think they will have to commit seppuku first. At least Toshiba.
But really, they will keep in this as long as possible, but they will have to concede sometime in 2008 if WB does indeed go Blu. |

Obviously this will go on a long time until something like WB happens or Triple layers or something BIG.
$150 million is a drop in the bucket compared to what Sony spends put that to rest please. |

Well 72% at this point of the game is impressive.
With no real huge exclusive titles planned for 2008 to this point for HD DVD, if the December is 70%+ in favor of BR, I can't see how they will even plan a 4th generation of HD DVD players. Also, no one else still making HD DVD players... whats to look forward to? |

Uh, when did Sony pay any studio to release exclusive. I am sure if that happened, it would be plastered everywhere. It would be in 30 foot tall neon in front of Toshiba headquarters. There would be press conferences, there would be...........................well you get the point.
