Default Best way to stream vudu hdx movies?

I own a sony s790 which is a really great blu-ray player, but seeing how I mainly stream movies now from vudu does the player I use really matter? I was considering just selling my player and using chrome cast. I have a wired connection right now but still have to deal with buffering. Anyone have any insights on or thoughts on this? I would like the best streaming quality I can get.
I also use hulu and netflix.

If you are going to stream more then one service I suggest a Roku 3. You can hardline that one in as well as wifi. I have used the Chromecast and didn't like it that much personally. You have to use it with the computer versus with the Roku you get a remote.
I sold my CC. I mainly stream via my Xbox 360 when I'm the bedroom and Roku when I'm in the living room.

Same here. I returned my CC and bought a Roku 3. I know it's hard to justify a standalone piece of additional hardware when you already have the apps on your Sony but the Roku interface is likely to be far superior to those Vudu, Netflix or Hulu apps on your BR player. Buy a Roku and you will never look back.

The best streaming devices I have used are my ps3 and ps4. The xbox one user interface used to be terrible but I think they just updated it to look like the ps3/ps4. My inlaws and my sister both have rokus for streaming and both have problems with vudu on them. I can do a hard reset and it works for awhile. Just do a google search(roku vudu not working) and you will see others have this same problem.

+1 for Roku 3 - One of the best features of Roku 3, besides the multiple streaming channels and flawless streaming, is the headphone jack on the remote...that right there is genius

Most will likely suggest a Roku 3, and that's good. It's an excellent little box.

However, I've used many devices to watch VUDU movies, and if I'm being 100% honest, my best experience has been on the PS3. I don't think I've had a single issue streaming from VUDU on the PS3, or PS4 for that matter. I give the edge to the PS3 though, mainly due to the awesome remote (an official one for the PS4 is supposedly in development, but hasn't been released yet) and the fact that the PS3 remains one of the few devices that you can download your movies to.

Even if you don't need the "gaming" part of it, I tend to recommend the PS3 due to it's features and flexibility.

I prefer the PS3. It has the best interface of anything and works flawlessly with a CAT6 ethernet connection.

I use the roku 3 in the living room and bedroom.. I love them not only for Vudu but for the other channels it offers. The kids use their ps3's and they seem happy with them also, I am thinking of getting the kids their own Roku 3 for the bedrooms just so they aren't always using the playstation all the time. I personally have not used the headphone jack on the remote but it seems like a great feature.

Roku 3 here too. I have tried other things, including streaming via the app on Blu-ray player, but none are as good as Roku 3.

BTW, if you have a lot of buffering issues, you may need to increase your internet speed no matter what device you use. That becomes even more important if you have multiple devices connected to your network (as I do).

A lot of good feedback here thanks guys! Seems like a toss up between ps3 and roku 3, tough choice. I used to have ps3 and it was awesome for Netflix. I have 50 Mbps via comcast in which it usually when working runs around 30 Mbps. Comcast typically sucks for me and I will be going with a different provider soon.

first you sure its not your equipment? had that happent o me switched routers go 60 down after that.

second do you still have a ps3 collection or are their ps4 games you'd like (may as well upgrade honestly at this point) there have been some solid ps4 deals recently.

Or if you really want a ps3 and dont care if its new keep an eye here:
http://www.cowboom.com/Gaming/Video-...d&subkeywords=

Just make sure you look at the grade of console before buying they sometimes have pictures of the specific units.

Again if its solely for Vudu playback and other VOD, roku all the way i guess, but if you need/want a bluray player or play games id suggest ps3/4.

It would be nice to have a disc option as well but I could always use my old blu-ray player for discs. I'm going to double check my router but the service in my area has just been bad for a few weeks now and I'm not ok with it. Im using a comcast router maybe that's the problem?

I went nuts and bought this

http://www.amazon.com/ASUS-RT-AC87R-.../dp/B00MG3Q5U8

It was $180 when i nabbed it. I just wanted to future proof myself.

But I definitely would not rent a router, waste of money in my opinion. Better off buying one pays for itself in about year and a half depending on level you buy, same for the modem too.

You said you are running 50Mbps and getting about 30Mbps? I would check to make sure you modem is DOCSIS 3.0 and not DOCSIS 2.0. Right now I am running 30Mbps but if I up grade to the 60Mbps I would need to make sure my modem had DOCSIS 3.0 for the increased bandwidth. I would look at the modem number and google it to make sure it was compliant. If you are having router issues have you done a hard reset to see if that helped. I would say call Comcast but we all know they are pretty much worthless.

I currently only use one device to stream movies my blu ray player, so not to worried about the wireless part , @ bfett that is impressive though!

Neoz is right though check your modem if its a DOCSIS 2.0 that may explain why you are only getting 30 down, I upgraded to DOCSIS 3.0 as well.

This is supported by Comcast, atleast where I am. It is considered best.

I use the Roku 2XS and also have 30mbs Comcast. I have the Roku hard wired and I have NEVER had any buffering. It simply works.

Another consideration is the Roku uses 2.4 watts of electricity while streaming.

I mainly use mine for streaming VUDU, Amazon Prime, Netflix and YouTube.
