Question Optimum Home Entertainment

Any idea why they release some films on BD and some on HD-DVD but not always on both formats?

I hope thats not the case especially as the original studio should have no say over international distribution rights if they don't own them.

that is actually the case in Indonesia. the first BD appeared officially in indonesia july 2007. The distributor has the right of sony and universal movies (maybe some other as well, but not disney). they only have sony's titles on BD. If the distributor has the right to decide, then universal would be released on BD. but no, it didn't. it stayed on DVD (they don't even bother to release HD DVD - because it's unpopular in asia).

the distributor that distribute disney titles hasn't embrace HDM (but I hope it won't be hd dvd, and i doubt it will be, due to strong ps brand in asia).

not sure though, if it's different in other countries. I know that bruce almighty is on BD in EU, because buena vista owned all rights to distribute the movie internationally. but I think other than the rightful distributor, smaller distributor does not have its own right.

One othe example: bridge to terabithia. the right in UK is owned by Icon..... (can't remember the name), not by Disney. Still, its BD exclusive.
