Business Trip to Chennai - Blu-ray Forum

Hi,

I'm traveling to Chennai for Business. Are there any good shops to go to find Indian Blu-rays?

Also, any other advice in terms of where to go, what to do, where to buy from, etc. would be greatly appreciated.

Just order from Amazon India and have it shipped to wherever you're staying as long as you are there for 5-6 days.

Otherwise, Landmark and Reliance Time-Out in the malls are ok and I think Subu has a house in Chennai and you can get stuff from him.

PS, If you have time, watch a movie in one of the SPI Cinemas (Sathyam, Escape, etc.) with Dolby Atmos.

If you wanna watch in Atmos. Choose escape cinemas and the screen would be Streak it is the best for Atmos experience.
Also do try to watch a movie on the Sathyam cinemas Sathyam screen

^Escape is owned by SPI which owns Sathyam. And agreed, they have superb quality :emoji:

Is it possible to buy the blu-ray movies directly from him physically?

I'm nearby to Phoenix Market City, they have a Luxe cinema which I believe is part of SPI. I'm not sure if either of those stores are there, perhaps I'll check tomorrow or saturday.

Yes I am very much as I am a guy who spends a day in either escape of Sathyam watching some 2-5 movies :P

I had said escape separately because Streak has the best Atmos. And the main screen in sathyam is something unique

I don't imagine any of the local movies would be subtitled in English.

Local? Maybe not. But I think in some of the screens the English ones are subtitled (in English?) Idk exactly. You should check their website spicinemas.in and/or Facebook page

Local movies too do get the subs, It all depends on the movie and to which the producer gives them the subs.
If you check on http://www.spicinemas.in/ you would be able know which movies have subs and which do not. Please use a laptop or a pc to check the site for the subs, As I am not aware of it being displayed on the mobile browsers.

I would really recommend you watch the movie (Jurassic World) in Escape cinemas the screen would be "Streak" It has cool atmos effect.

And if you are really wanting to choose only between Sathyam/Santham I would suggest you to choose Sathyam only and never even think of choosin Santham the effects wont be good and the seats either.

Mostly in India we have the movie releases on Fridays. But during the festive seasons it varies depending on the holiday weekend day. "Jurassic World" is releasing on thursday.

Getting a ticket in Satyam/Escape during the weekend is a pain.

Almost impossible. Just back from Satyam..all full.

You just need to open SPI cinemas website at around 12-2am wednesday morning and book your tickets to save the time of going there and returning back

haha!! Yaa, I stay 5 mins away from Satyam..so don't mind going and coming. Its fun in a way. :P.

SPI cinemas are the best in terms of all aspects in the country..seats,projection,leg space(most imp.), Service.

Wish I stayed close to sathyam

And totally agree on that excluding luxe which is super bad in my view. Never visited either of the S2 so cant comment on that.

What exactly is the point for him to go to an Atmos movie theater in India? Most Atmos theaters in any country are a great experience so what is the point of going to an Indian one - for the interactive crowd experience?

Honestly, Sathyam is probably the best theater I've been to in the world. I have an Atmos theater locally, but it's my second favorite theater for various reasons.

Plus, many Indian films actually release with Atmos (probably because there's a mixing studio in Chennai) but are only played with that format in India.
