Default Stephen King's The Stand

I LOVE this movie! I see they are playing it this Sunday on SyFy. A Blu would be awesome.

Did you watch the remake of Salem's Lot? I tried watching it but didn't like it and couldn't get into it at all.

I still remember the first time I saw the mini series on TV. I'd buy THE Stand on BD in a heart beat. I wonder if it's popular enough for then to want to do it?

I was watching The Stand again. There's a lot of it that looks murky and bad beyond the expected dated feel of a TV mini-series from almost 20 years ago. There's scenes that look worse than Soap which was much older and shot on video.

I wonder if part of it is just compression and mastering problem due to the length.

Has anyone compared the more recent Paramount releases to the original Republic ones?

Regardless we might have our only shot at a blu-ray release if the remake being worked on ever gets finished and released. Paramount would want some of that money and would probably throw a blu-ray out.

I'd say the majority of it was the mastering/compression stuff, maybe the schedule was too tight to shoot for 6 hours of finished material and have it look as good as I'm sure they wanted it to. After all, it was shot on 16mm (not video), at least according to IMDB, and 16mm can look pretty good when done right.

Listening to the commentary again , Mick Garris does say it was shot on 16mm. I've seen 16mm films look so much better, so I hope they do have a better source to use if they do put out a blu-ray.

I loved 'The Stand' , 'Desperation' & 'IT'. I thought 'Langoliers' was OK, 'Tommyknockers' was weak, 'Storm of the Century' and 'Ruby Red' had SO much potential, but fell rather flat, but 'The Shinning' was ruined by that obnoxious kid that played Danny. I mean, I was rooting for John to whack that kid with that mallot. I'm still undecided about the tv version of 'Carrie'. It had some WONDERFUL moments, but like MOST of King's stories, I HATE the ending.

I would say 'The Stand' is my favorite, with 'IT' coming in at second, but even 'IT' suffers from a poor ending.
