Does a blu-ray for this exist?

I know there is an English subtitled version and a Chinese subtitle version. I have the Chinese ver. (looking for English subtitles with no luck)

But it seems to be almost impossible to find out anything about any releases of this film.

For what it's worth, the DVD doesn't look too bad

There does not appear to be a BD of this title.

What's the barcode # of the Chinese version? Is it 9787887632937 or something else?

Interesting. My barcode is the same but the back cover or menu doenst mention English subtitles (nor are they available on VLC)

I went ahead and ordered from that link (Thank you!) I never used Taobao before but it seems pretty cheap. I am assuming that they mail it to a warehouse then you pay for international shipping later?

So your back cover looks a bit different than the back cover photo on there? Interesting if so, regarding the same barcode.

To get the best of my knowledge, yes I believe it is something along the lines of that.

It really is, here is the back of my case


It's also interesting to note that this version is DVD-5 and not DVD-9. My disc is damaged and won't play fully either so at the very least I can use a new copy.

but it's weird they'd share the same barcode.

I wonder why this isn't on Bluray. I wonder if it didn't do well enough? It's pre-Fan Bing Bing scandal so I would of assumed there would be one.

I admit: I have a guilty pleasure that I enjoyed the film back in the day. It's not perfect but Fan is simply beautiful in the film. Actually, there USED to be an article online by the cinematographer on ARRI.com about how they used both digital Arriflex and 16mm cameras. 16mm was used for the flashback sequences and the cinematographer actually had trouble finding a film lab to process it in China.

Anyhoo, the film never got a bluray release (and probably will never now) but there is an HD webrip floating around with Chinese/English subtitles embedded. I assume this was the same source used for the theatrical release.

I've seen that on youtube (the Maylasian bootleg uses the same file as well) the subtitle could be hard to read sometimes. Sadly my Taobao copy could not be shipped.
