Default Exodus (1960) (Twilight Time) - Early 2016

March 15, 2016

Twilight Time will be releasing Exodus; probably early 2016. Here's what they had to say yesterday at HTF:

This happens over and over again. Not sure about the color as the teal vs blue debate is clearly going to run and run.

Our EXODUS blu-ray will be the best it can be under the aforementioned circumstances - we always try to go the extra yard and do whatever we can with sound and music to improve that end, and make sure the PQ is presented at the highest bitrate possible.

This all seems very confused and confusing.

The film was shot in Super Panavision 70. So how and why is MGM/UA busy transferring the film from "35mm elements" when there weren't any in terms of the OCN? All 35mm "elements" for this title could be are the reduction prints made for general (2.35), as opposed to Roadshow (70mm, 2.20), release. And what's the point of that?

The Oz release is indeed listed as 1 : 2.35 AR, which suggests that the 70mm OCN wasn't scanned for its release. So what's going on now chez TT?

the non-implementation of the 6-track elements for 'Khartoum' was such bullsh*t as the 2012 70mm prints that were shown in New York City and Silver Spring Maryland had the five front/mono surround mix timecoded/encoded by DTS - they exist, I'm just not sure why or what happened that MGM couldn't derive the masters for the bluray transfer to reflect this.

I've been pretty underwhelmed by TT lately. I was an early fan but i haven't been too interested in the titles this year. Way too much United Artists stuff lately. That catalog has been picked bone dry by too many distributors.

I am really looking forward to this release. PQ on the laser was very nice. The music is so beautiful it's nice to know the sound should be something to look forward to as well.

This review gives a four out of five rating for the sound but then says only the 2.0 track sounded good to him.
