Default Labyrinth Reboot

http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/hea...-galaxy-858487

Labyrinth, Jim Henson’s 1986 fantasy that starred David Bowie, is getting rebooted for the 21st century.

Tri-Star has closed a deal with the Jim Henson Co. to produce a new iteration and has hired Guardians of the Galaxy co-writer Nicole Perlman to pen the script.

Labyrinth told of a teenager, played by Jennifer Connelly in one of her first roles, who has to navigate a fantastical maze in order to save her young brother, kidnapped by a goblin king (Bowie).

It was the last film directed by Henson, had a script by Monty Python member Terry Jones and was exec produced by George Lucas.

Despite the film’s modern popularity, the movie was a box office disappointment at the time of its release and led to Henson’s exit from film directing. It was only in the intervening years that the film gained a strong cult following.

It is unclear if the new take is a re-imagining of the story or a sequel as the new take is being kept deep in the vault.

Lisa Henson of the Henson Co. will produce the project, which will be overseen at Tri-Star by Nicole Brown.

Sony, Tri-Star’s parent, had no comment on the development.

I haven't watched Labyrinth, but this is f**king unnecessary.
I'm sick of Hollywood doing shitty reboots or remakes. The Point Break remake was atrocious.

This is a failure waiting to happen. Oh sure, we can't get Pacific Rim 2 or Hellboy 3 but we can get an endless supply of inferior reboots and remakes that'll never recapture the magic of the originals. I just don't get it.

I highly doubt it'll work out. Bowie made that entire film, the film itself was horribly cringy with all the cheese which is what also made it special and you can't recapture that.

It's probably why they announced it. With Bowie's death, the sales for the original went through the roof, so those people who only sees money thinks people want a remake.

Most people can't perform his music so having someone else do "As The World Falls Down" would just be ostentatious.

We need to dip whoever came up with this idea head first into the bog of Eternal Stench.

"The original movie didn't do too well at the box office and only became well known as a cult movie the following years because of its lead actor who is dead now, and it involved the use of elaborate puppetry that will cost a lot of time and money, and dark children's movies are box office poison, and the original screenplay wasn't even that good and was only elevated by the talented people involved who won't in any way shape or form be involved in this one... so let's make another one!"

No Jim Henson, no David Bowie, no Jennifer Connelly, no '80s cheese factor... I think I'll pass.

I thought the same thing. After Bowie's recent passing, going ahead with this would just feel kinda tasteless.

Nooooooooo!

This movie gave me the creep when I watched it as a kid, especially when Bowie was signing in the stairs, it was awful. They reboot anything nowadays Hollywood film makers have absolutely no imagination left.

They reboot The Mummy, rerereboot Spiderman, reboot ghostbusters and now this!

C'mon man!

That one makes sense since Marvel didn't make the past Spidermans and now they can bring him into the MCU. Also the Mummy can be a good reboot, the original wasn't all that great and I can see Hollywood making a better version with what is available today.

I loved the original with Frasier.

I think rebooting Spider-Man would be a bad idea. Everyone I know was already burnt out after Spider-Man 3. Rebuilding his popularity through ensemble films is the way to go.

Oh I'm not saying it is bad but it isn't that great a film. The film isn't special like Labyrinth though so Hollywood can potentially make a better version of it... the issue is, it is Hollywood and they have a really bad track record of remakes since they have a hard time seeing what made the originals so special.
