Default Should there be a Back To The Future remake? . . .

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/film/back...bert-zemeckis/

I have to agree with Robert Zemeckis. A Back To The Future remake would be awful and there'd be no way to top the original because the original is fine the way it is.

What do you think?

No. It was a product of its time and worked because of that. Plus, Michael J. Fox was perfect as Marty. Even they didn't get it right the first time so let's not try again.

No.

I was so delighted to read that interview earlier this evening and discover that Zemeckis and Gale actually co-own the rights themselves, thus making it so much easier to prevent a remake instead of if Universal had the rights. Once they are gone and the rights pass on to their families, hopefully they will honor their wishes and keep them to continue preventing a remake.

It's nice to know at least one childhood classic is safe from the remake machine.

No it was a product of its time which is why it still holds up today so well. Fox also owned his role don't think would want anybody else to play the part.

I liked the game from a story-perspective. I kind of sucks as a game (I'm not into "point and click" games), but story-wise, it was interesting.

The only way that I could see BTTF being remade in any capacity would be as some kind of animated series (a more mature version than the cartoon from the early 90s), preferably with either the original cast members doing their voices, or getting really close sound alikes (the guy who did Marty's voice in the game was really good.... sounded almost just like MJF), and I would want Bob Gale heavily involved with it.

I can't see a full on movie remake. And I'm glad that Roberty Zemeckis and Bob Gale have the attitude that they do in that regard. The BTTF Trilogy are my favorite movies, and I'm glad that at least they are safe for the forseeable future from having an unnecessary remake.

Easiest question ever. People who like Back to the Future will hate it regardless, people who hate Back to the Future will not care, end of discussion.

[Show spoiler]Although, of course, if it was actually made, all the *****ing and whining people would go see it and it would made $200 Mill upon opening or something like that.

No. The original did its thing pretty much perfectly already, so there's no point, especially since it'd just be a repeat of the same story. Come up with new time traveling stories instead, I might be interested in that.

If it was done well by a talented up-and-coming director then it could actually be really cool.

...but that wouldn't happen.

The game was okay (I love point-and-click adventures). It started off really good, but the story got a little bizarre and less interesting as it went along, and some of the puzzles and gameplay were maddening. Worth playing at least once if you're a big BTTF fan, because it's clearly made by people who love the films, but it wasn't as good as it could have been.

The first movie worked so well because younger (80s kids) and older (50s kids) generations could get attached to what was going on. If it was remade it would only appeal to young adults with fond memories of the 80s. I'm sure it would make money, but I doubt it would be as well received by a new, fresh audience like it did in the 80s. Even the sequels weren't that good and lacked a lot of the charm that the first had.

You're assuming the remake would stick to the '80s setting, though. I think it would make more sense to bring the "current" ('80s) portion of the story into the present, and have the characters time travel to the '80s instead of the '50s. There is as much time between the present and the '80s as there was between the '80s and the '50s, and '80s nostalgia is popular now just like '50s nostalgia was back then, so it'd work.

I will say that, currently, the only person I could see playing Doc in a remake (and I've seen others say this over the years as well) is Kelsey Grammer. He often reached Doc Brown-esque levels of hysteria and exasperation on Frasier.

Actually, I didn't think that at all. I assumed they would do exactly what you proposed which is why I think a remake wouldn't be very good. A present day setting would likely be flooded with iPhones, Mac computers, Starbucks, and other blatant product placement that would be disguised as being culturally relevant.
