Supposedly preorder is planned for August and release in September. We will see how that goes! Manta has a lot on their plate right now, wouldn’t be surprised if it gets delayed. After seeing in-hand pics of FACs edition, it wasn’t quite what I expected, so I am happy to wait for Manta!

It's nice to see that the full slip comes with the extra disc, being a full slip kind of guy. I also hope it gets a booklet!

Group buys happen before the pre-order date on the website. It's a pre-order to a pre-order basically.

What's the advantage of joining a group buy rather than just pre-ordering it from the website, I mean does Manta not ship to the US or something?

It's just a way of securing a guaranteed copy of your choice in advance, but you pay extra for that privilege in PP/GB fees, etc. Some will choose to join to save waking up at an unsociable hour dependant where you are around the world. Others may join in fear of missing out upon live pre-order, if for example a low print run etc (though I'd say Manta's website is very responsive/fully capable in my experience of use).

And yes of course, Manta ship worldwide (including US

)

It's basically to ensure you get a copy instead of fighting with everyone else at the time of pre-order on the site. Sometimes the site can lag or the title could be a quick sell out or if you just can't make it at the time or forget. It's just a safety cushion.

I used to enjoy the anticipation of pre-orders going live and refreshing the page, but now a lot of them do it while I am at work and would forget so I usually just go through GBs these days.

Oh I see, but how can HDN guarantee copies when pre-orders haven't gone live? Just confidence?

And where will they announce the pre-order date for this?

GB hosts are given an allotment of copies from the company that they can sell and are guaranteed to have put aside for them. Sometimes they can get more depending on demand in the GBs and/or the number of GBs going on for a particular title. Often times the number of copies is low so as not to have nothing for the site and people wanting to buy directly from Manta.

Pre-order for this probably won't be until mid to late September after they get The Greatest Showman's pre-order taken care of since Shape is looking like it will be their October release.
