This would make a nice future Criterion release.

My copy just shipped, read a few online mini reviews, apparently the documentary 'Last Of The Independents - Don Siegel and the Making of Charlery Varrick' ( approx. 72 min ) and a 16 page booklet are included

As a German I already got the Blu-ray.

Picture quality is much better than the DVD.

Subtitles only in German. Audio English and German.

Nice Booklet.

Not a deal breaker for me but interesting that Koch state English subs on their site.

Back cover states Region B, though it very much could be Region free, as their release of Don Siegel's Coogan's Bluff was.

Yes, you cannot always trust the back covers.

Well, took a look at this today and the few scenes I skipped through have no grain at all, total Universal wax catalogue job!

What a shame, nowhere near the same quality as the recent Eastwood boxset titles from Universal.

But yes, better than the DVD

Okay, after watching it I'll add the following.

Whilst the film grain has been mostly erased it's still watchable. It's not a total disaster but Universal has provided Koch with a manipulated transfer, a few waxy close-ups but 'smearing' is only noticeable in a few scenes. I noticed on the Cinefacts forum a few users were left a little disappointed too.

I'd wait till it hits the €10 mark.

Disc starts with the Universal logo - will probably be the same transfer used if they release in US. Watched last night and although scrubbed up i thought the transfer was reasonably good.

I compared this Blu-ray (presented in the intended theatrical 1.85 aspect ratio) against the Region 1 DVD, which was presented in a 1.37 ratio. Interestingly, the Blu-ray has significantly more information at the sides as well as losing information at the top and bottom. This suggests to me that the film was actually shot in an intermediate ratio - possibly 1.66. IMDB states that the in-camera negative ratio was 1.37, but I suspect this is incorrect. Does anyone have more definitive info on this?

I was quite impressed with the Blu-ray transfer - it didn't strike me as a total "wax" job at all. And the 72-minute "making of" item is a worthwhile extra.

It's that old chestnut about screen size and viewing distance I suppose, sat 7ft away from my 60" screen is a blessing and a curse, usually a curse when it comes to Universal transfers. Really wish they would stop filtering the life out of their older films

I did update my initial opinion with a 'suppose it's not as bad as I thought' coda and the making of is excellent
