Australia Barnes and Noble Criterion sale

This is for the Aussie buyers that were hoping to buy during the B&N 50% off sale but have noticed the ridiculous shipping charges on the new site. A poster on the UK forums has worked out that the increase in shipping rates is down to blu rays being treated like 'book/VHS' and hence incurring shipping rates of $7.49 per order + $5.49 per item. They should be falling under 'CD/DVD', for which the shipping rates are the same as on the previous site, $7.49 per order + $0.99 per item.

So basically if you want to purchase during this sale, best to fire off an email to B&N about the above, the more people that do it, the more likelihood they will fix the glitch before the sale is over.

yep... mentioned those shipping prices in the general banter the other morning....

glitch... or just that's the price now ?? it's hard to tell as they have revamped their help section - and there's no page detailing the international shipping rates.

I would say glitch since dvds still are the old rate, blus are just being treated as book/VHS.

looks like the old pages - difficult to 'locate' using their new help.

mmm... I might hold off on this round.... might wait and see if I decide to re-locate to Los Angeles for a few months from Sept.

Due to still having unwatched criterions from previous sales and the dollar as it is I likely won't be purchasing from the sale this time but I got on my social media accounts and asked about the shipping change will report back if I get a response

like... wow - 22 titles on this 'order' - and look at the shipping cost

and this comment .. 'mind' the mild censorship - obviously there is a glitch.......

What the **** is going on with the international shipping rates? Last November you shipped 13 discs to me for $24. Now you want over $170 for 31 blu rays? What the ****??? **** you Barnes and Noble. I went to Amazon, bought all 31 discs without a sale, and guess what? It was cheaper, mother****** ! $170 to ship a box of 31 discs to Japan? ***** YOU! You have lost my business. Good luck with one more nail in your coffin as you continue to shoot yourselves in the foot with ludicrous shipping rates, websites that suck ass and don't work, stores with inept employees, and the list goes on and on and on. *****OFF AND DIE!

Wow ^ dramatic. Gets the point across though I guess... Lol.

I've sent them a couple emails to no avail (they just send automated messages back with guided to the shipping rates, which incidentally prove that there's a glitch.
I even made the effort of writing out a long message to them on FB and shot them yet another, more detailed email with screenshot proof in case I run into another idiot who doesn't understand what I'm talking about.

Sorry to be rude and call them idiots but if I get another email back with a guide to their international shipping rates, that'll be 3 times in a row they haven't understood anything I've told or asked them and believe me when I say I was detailed and explained the issue thoroughly for their sake and for mine/ours.

thanks, I have done the same re emails, but no response yet.

If they dont fix it, I'm probably going to look into the Criterion direct sale in Sept-Oct, and use Shipito to get the items to me, and also take advantage of Criterion direct's rewards system. That's assuming the dollar doesnt fall further haha.

I might try live chat if I can get on when it's available. Maybe escalate to a higher up...and just keep pushing till I'm frustrated and getting nowhere.

You'd a think the sales team who would see the sales numbers every day would be on top of something like this, as surely they're taking a decent hit atm.

What's the saying, the hand doesn't know what the foot is doing. The problem was passed onto building maintenance at their Winnipeg store

I said the same thing to them. I asked if they've even bothered looking at the online sales numbers of all their previous criterion sales in July and November of each year.

I know there's not a crazy amount of international fans who collect Criterions but I've got to imagine we make up like half of their online sales during these periods as I'm always reading Americans say they typically go into the stores where it's quicker to get what they want, they can select non-damaged packages and they can attempt/successfully lower the prices with their membership + coupons.

It might be wildly inaccurate to assume international customers make up at least half the online orders during these sales but surely they should notice that practically none of us are ordering this time and question why that is.

I mean jeez.

I got on live chat. One employee said they're aware of the issue and are trying to fix it. She convinced me that if I made the order with the incorrect shipping charges I could get back on live chat and they'd manually adjust it to the correct price. I was apprehensive but did it.

I got back on live chat and the next person I spoke to didn't do it. Instead of doing the right thing they said they had to consult others. They then told me to contact them back in 48 hours while they investigate the issue and hope to resolve it by then. Nothing I said convinced them otherwise. They refused to acknowledge the obvious and do anything about it.

Classy, B&N. Real classy.

Maybe they just changed their shipping price.. maybe it's not a 'fault' or 'issue'.

You could always just use shopmate, Youshop or Shipit. I ordered 2 titles and that was enough to gain free US shipping,

I plan to use Shipito but if I have to do that, may as well order from Criterion direct during their flash sales and also take advantage of their rewards system.

With the NZ dollar the way it is, works out to be $30 a Blu.. too much for me, not enough of a bargain to order from the states at the current rate.

Yes, their shipping prices have shot through the roof over the last few months, so much so that I haven't ordered a book from them since. I was hoping that the bluray charges hadn't been affected as I always order Criterion's when they have a sale, but now with their prices it works out cheaper to buy from my usual bluray source, Amazon even with their higher prices.

Massive pain in the ass but I got results. I got screwed around big time by customer service but I kept on it throughout the week.

I had to talk to three people via live chat. First convinced me to make the order with the incorrect shipping amount because someone on live chat would manually adjust it to the correct price. Second said they had to investigate and told me to contact them back in 48 hours. My charge went through and they started shipping my items. Third person said they couldn't do anything and told me to contact them back in 48 hours as well.

Today I got an email that they're refunding me the difference between the incorrect shipping price ($67.88) and the correct amount ($18.38).
