No, I just love movies, & it's still a novelty being able to actually own one (or many). Back in the sixties when I was going all over London to catch up with various films, the idea of actually having these films in the house so I could see them whenever I liked (& looking so good), seemed like science fiction. And...it's no more of a hobby than collecting CD's or books.

No. People buy crap everyday. I just happen to buy more movies than other crap. lol that's about it. When I think of hobbys I think of painting, playing sports, and doing other creative things...etc.

I don't really see it as a hobby really. I just buy movies I like. There aren't too many left on my list that I want to buy. There's an end in sight, I won't be doing it all my life.

It's not a hobby per say, but an addiction for passionate movie fans. If you have a limited budget on spending or you may be one of the lucky where money is no object when collecting the various degrees of releases and re-releases in steelbooks, collector sets with all the bling etc.

No.
Collecting movies is not a hobby to me. Movies are a hobby. Be it the theatre, TV, home theatre, or on a portable device, watching, experiencing, and feeling about movies is the hobby. Reading about, discussing, beating people into a pulp for disagreeing (j/k) is part of the hobby. Building shelves, custom cases, that too. Collecting them is much like going to the grocery or the pharmacy, it's a task. Although these are often rewarding purchases, or rare finds, there is a thrill. It's not to insult or be rude, but going to get X film from WM or wherever is just a task. If you collect rare/limited/exotic pieces only, I'd think that is a hobby.

It sounds like I'm a little younger but I've used that exact phrase.

It's not just how big screens have gotten or how flat they've gotten or any of the other technical whizbangery.

Having personal access to a library of films itself seemed like the stuff of fantasy back then.

Personally I consider Home Theater the hobby, but I guess collecting and watching movies is a hobby. If stamp collecting is a hobby then any collecting would also be.
I'm regularly tweaking my HT setup with REW, and an old analog RTA I picked up. I also have Dolby cinema processors (currently using a CP200 I got cheap, but also have the CP650), so when making any changes there's always some calibrating to do. The Dolby Processors have built in 27 band 3rd octave equalizers, so you can spend some time on that when you change something out. I recently changed out my 6 JBL Pro 8320 surrounds for QSC SR-8101s. I've also had to make my own cables to integrate pro and consumer gear. Definitely a hobby.

I don't consider myself a collector per se but for me the pursuit of titles in and of itself can be an enjoyable way to kill time. When gohastings was still around I whiled away more hours than I care to admit to working on my wish list there. That was a fun diversion and the thrill of the hunt when their sales would go live was even more fun.

I like watching for sales here, I like mapping out coupon strategies, I like comparing notes with other shoppers here.

Yeah, I'd say anything you research that you don't get paid for may be a hobby.

As someone else said here I feel main hobby is home theather. But I'm sure I have been obsessed with buying what movies I want on certain format with the best price possible for some years allready. So there are sub hobbies involved. But the most rewarding is if I find something I didn't know about. So I would say definitely a hobby in many ways.

I buy movies I wanna watch. With the amount I have you'd say I was a collector, but I just like buying stuff to watch. I'd say the home theater and the action of discussing movies is more of a hobby than the buying of the movies themselves.

Now, action figures and stuff....oooh boy.
