![]() ![]() Happinet will release David Lynch's Dune (1984) on Blu-ray in Japan on August 4th, 2015, as a 30th Anniversary Edition. It appears this release will include both the 137-minute theatrical cut, and a 189-minute TV version in 4:3 and possibly in SD resolution. There will be about 45 minutes of video extras, some of which will be in French. All extras will have DTS-HD MA 2.0 audio. The edition on Amazon at the present time will also include a presently unknown amount of post cards as a pre-order bonus, but it is not indicated as an Amazon Exclusive. I do. I have this and the US Universal edition. I haven't had a chance to watch the Japanese disk all the way through, but I've watched the first 10 minutes or so and both look similar in terms of colour and contrast. I think the Japanese disk has slightly better compression (comparing freeze frames), but not a massive difference in motion.
I can take some screenshots with vlc if you want. I can't really comment on audio as my setup isn't great. I scanned the first bit of the disk 1: Code:

Okay, sorry about the delay! Here are some screencaps of the Japanese and US blu-rays. These were captures taken using vlc and I didn't have time to match captures exactly, so there's plenty of salt required!
Japanese ![]() US ![]() Japanese TV version ![]() Japanese ![]() US ![]() Japanese ![]() US ![]() As you can see there are no night-and-day differences between the two. Personally, I think the JP disk just wins it, but not by much. Last edited by Mizu_Ger; 10-23-2015 at 08:20 AM. |
