I'd like to hear everyones opinion on the best lighting for a medium size HT.

What do you think is the best size fixtures to use? Small, medium, or large?

Direct lighting or surrounding light?

What do you feel is the best color temperature?

Did you mount your lighting up high near the ceiling, in the middle, or down low?

it really depends or personal choice and room setup..

for my theater i went with 4" recessed lighting only on my perimeter. this is because all my movie watching is in complete darkness and is only needed to make sure you don't trip.

i went w/ bulbs that are dimmable and their color temp is 4100k. w/ 25 degrees. i went with this temp to provide cool whiting against my black fabric panels.

My panels are a dark espresso color and they really darkened the room. I feel I need something to help showcase the posters I have mounted on them when not watching a movie.

I went with three different sets and types of lights for different styles deepening on my mood:

- LED puck lighting in poster niches and display case to show off my stuff
- Rope lighting around the perimeter bulkhead to highlight it's floating look
- Halogen lights in the overhead portion of the bulkhead which are dimmable - I use mostly when starting or finishing a movie so I can see what I'm doing - controlled via remote

+1 for the mixed lighting, and ideally in zones, on a lighting controller, so one can create scenes.

I prefer 4" PAR20 halogen spots versus 6" spots.

I have overhead can lighting and a couple of "theater" sconces. The sconces are ideal because they block any direct light from hitting your eye as you watch the show. When dimmed to the lowest setting, they provide ample light to see the way to the bar fridge without being distracting while viewing the movie. The can lighting is always off unless I need to do some Theater maintenance. Overhead direct lighting (cans) can be annoying to your eyes.

I have 6 overhead LED lights in the sides of my room, but for some reason they hum when on.
