Default Receiver at or under $350?

Hey All,

I have been using an Onkyo TX-NR414 for the past few years. To be honest...its had nothing but problems. Stability problems. Now most recently i am getting a lot of boots with no audio, and no network connection option. Their replacement program says I "do not need" the update, so as far as i am concerned, i am 110% DONE with onkyo.

With that said, i am looking for a replacement. Maybe Yamaha? I am looking at something around $300-$350 range, HDMI inputs, and stable. Just 5.1

Any thoughts?

Thanks!

Well I picked up my Yamaha RX-V677 last weekend at my local ABC Warehouse for a closeout $298. But its a 7.1 not a 5.1 I like it so far it took awhile to get used to it. I was thinking about getting a Onkyo but read about to many issues with them, so I went with Yamaha. I would try to look at last year models at closeout prices. Or you can check this place out. They have some good deals. Good luck.

I used them and you will not find any cheaper on-line company. The customer service was not as friendly as I would have liked but they will work with you if it needs to be returned or replaced. What I purchased was Brand NEW so I cant speak about refurbished but I do know that refurbs have a 1yr warranty and on the more expensive refurbs some offer a 2yr warranty. Onkyos are not all bad. They offer more features for the price. I have owned an Onkyo AVR TX-NR709 for 5 years now and have had zero issues with it, and its used every single day. I know how you feel as I purchased a New Denon Flagship AVR that was NOT CHEAP and it has been in the shop 3 times in 8 months. Anyway Yamahas and Pioneers are very reliable, but thats what they said about Denons and Onkyos. Good luck and let us know what you decide on.

Got my Onkyo TX-NR818 from them about 3-4 years ago. It's a refurb, 0 issues, came in what appeared to be factory packaging with all the accessories and I wouldn't have been able to tell the difference between it and a new unit. I recommend them all the time.

I bought my Onkyo HT-S5500 7.1 HTIB from there and it's great. Less than $300 and that was with shipping costs included. Works great, sounds great.

Costco has the TSR-5970, which is the clone of RX-V579, for $339.99. Best part is the liberal warranty. Not 1yr or 2yrs but when ever you feel dissatisfied with it. Amazon's price is 499.99 on the RX-V579.

By the way, I just dumped my Onkyo.
