Default Movie Downloads...

Just had a look on the marketplace thing on xbox live and they have movies on there to download. They have them in SD and 'HD', in glorious 720p whoooo! Strangely they all seem to be Warner titles! They vary in cost but I think 300 was 640 points which is about £5 ($10), but as far as I know you can't keep them for more than 14 days so it's basically renting them. Strangely I'm not feeling the urge to waste 1 pence on these things and I will stick with my real HD films (ie. 1080p) on Blu-ray. M$ can take its movie download service and shove it up it's ar$e

Yea, there has been discussion of this on other threads, too. I get the clear feeling that people want to have "hard copies" of their movies. Like me, for instance. There are numerous reasons for this. You can carry them with you and watch them in another location without having to be online. You don't have to stream or download every time you watch. You can wrap them and give them as gifts.

I think in the future downloading will be an option, but I get the feeling the consumer wants to own the disc. And who in hell wants some corporation to be tracking every time you watch a film, knowing when, where and how many times you watch it, which scenes you watch over and over again, etc?

Plus if you own a film on Blu-ray you can always trade it with somebody else, or just sell it when you get bored of it. Difficult to do with a download.

Oh geeze, I thought it would be Div-X all over again where you pay each time you play the movie. It's worse than I thought. Not only do you have to pay again after 14 days, but you probably need to re-download! Unless it just remains on your hard drive as "inactive". Which again is utter BS.

Not a bad idea for movies I would rather rent than buy, but is it worth the trouble? Still a lot easier to start a NetFlix account or walk over to my local Block Buster.

With this kind of "service" in place I believe it will actually drive people to blu-ray. Heck, it would drive them back to DVD!

The people who come up with these markets are either really out of touch, or out of ideas. People want to "own". We sometimes want to "rent". Their plan is like buying a leased car but in the end you don't get to keep the car!

Something like that, I though it was less days, I don't know if the the 1-2days to download it counts to it. I never tried it & never will, my 360 is for gaming only.

I agree with the OP in that anything more than a dollar is really too much for something I don't own. I mean movie rentals at Blockbuster are only $4, but if I want the movie I can go get it immediately and don't have to wait for it to download. Also the selection from a B&M store is better than any download service at this time. Lastly, I've always felt that people for whom digital downloads would be attractive would also be the kind of people who would just download movies on bittorrent and not pay anything at all.

I think it starts from the time you start to download. You have 14 days to 'start viewing' the movie. Once you've begun to play the movie however, you have 24 hours to finish watching it.
