From Don Siegel, the legendary director of Invasion of the Body Snatchers, Coogan’s Bluff, Dirty Harry, Charley Varrick, The Shootist and Escape from Alcatraz, comes this classic western starring screen legends Clint Eastwood (The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, High Plains Drifter) and Shirley MacLaine (Sweet Charity, Irma La Douce). Eastwood is a hard-hitting drifter who rides into town and single-handedly rescues a local nun (MacLaine) from a gang of bandits. After meeting a band of Mexican revolutionaries bent on resisting the French occupation of Mexico, the cowboy and Sister Sara decide to join forces with the freedom fighters and set off on a deadly mission to capture the enemy’s garrison. But along the way, a steamy romance develops between them when the soft-spoken hero discovers the nun is not what she seems. Ending with a violent climax at the well-protected fort, this action-packed western classic cemented Eastwood’s status as a true cinematic superstar. Featuring a masterful score by the great Ennio Morricone (A Fistful of Dollars).

We join the world in mourning the loss of the legendary Ennio Morricone. While initially scheduled as a celebratory release of the film’s 50th Anniversary, it is now our deepest honor to present his TWO MULES FOR SISTER SARA as a tribute to his memory and musical legacy.

La-La Land Records and Universal Studios proudly present the ninth title within the acclaimed Universal Pictures Film Music Heritage Collection, and the first produced in partnership with Universal Music Special Markets – TWO MULES FOR SISTER SARA – 50TH ANNIVERSARY REMASTERED EDITION, music by Ennio Morricone (THE GOOD, THE BAD AND THE UGLY, THE MISSION, THE UNTOUCHABLES). This deluxe release of Morricone’s original motion picture score to the 1970 big-screen western adventure TWO MULES FOR SISTER SARA, starring Clint Eastwood and Shirley MacLaine, and directed by Don Siegel, marks the world premiere of the original film version of the late maestro’s score.

Orchestra, organ, guitar and choir meld in strikingly original fashion, expertly heightening, enriching and propelling the film’s varied tones, which weave drama, comedy, history and action against a Western backdrop. Disc One of this presentation showcases the full film score for the first time, including material that went unused in the picture and 37 minutes of previously unreleased music – sourced from three-and-six-track Universal Studios vault elements. Disc Two serves up the 1970 Kapp/MCA soundtrack album, newly remastered from the original ¼’’ analog element provided by Universal Music Group.

Produced, mixed, edited and mastered by Mike Matessino, this special limited edition of 3000 units features exclusive liner notes written by journalist/author Jon Burlingame and sharp art direction by Dan Goldwasser.

Of the score, the film’s director Don Siegel said, “The music is among the most original and unusual ever written for a film. As far as I was concerned, Morricone was a genius.”

We couldn’t agree more.

This movie has such a wonderful score! I remember buying the LP in the early 70s from a cut-out bin in my town's department store.

??
113:32 International Cut / 104:40 Domestic Cut

This was never cut here, only the UK per IMDB?

To receive an 'A' (PG) certificate the UK cinema version was cut by the BBFC to remove shots of burning men and a soldier's face being slashed during the climax. The 1987 CIC video was 15-rated but featured a shorter print which missed around 8 minutes of footage.

I was wondering this, too. The Kino announcement is the first I've heard of any version longer or shorter than approximately 114 minutes.

Sorry about that...and the PQ leaves a lot to be desired, so you kind of took a double hit.

Thank you.

Yes I’ve have the UK 8 film Box set that I got cheap from Amazon UK years ago but I think I’m going have to double dip on most of these Kino releases with new extras; remaster and original artwork

Sorry to bump this particular thread, but does anyone know if there is a "Clint Eastwood on blu-ray" thread? I tried doing several searches and couldn't find any, but it seems like there should be one created by this point.

If anyone can post the link (or confirm there isn't such a thread), it would be much appreciated.

This seems like what Kino did with Sweet Charity, they put two versions on two seperate discs and doubled the price. The supposed second version was one that never received a theatrical release, and just had 1 different scene thst could have been put on the disc as a special feature. Putting in a second disc seems more like a Kino ploy to give them an excuse to charge $10 extra. With Sweet Charity it backfired, since it wasn't a hit seller & they had to try to dump copies at a discount during their sales. This should be a more popular title.
Universal has done an OK job with some recent new scans & restorations. Please remember that Kino does no restoration of their releases despite whatever BS they print on the back of the the case. They just issue whatever the studio they license a film from provides. The Universal scans they issued for a couple other Don Siegel films, Charley Varrick & The Black Windmill both look good, as did the Universal scan of Sweet Charity.
Compare those with their much trumpeted 4k scan from MGM/UA of The Thomas Crown Affair which features lots of unrestored print damage, dirt and debris, & weird flickering in one scene all in glorious 4K.

All Clint Eastwood films NEED to be released in 4K. The Studios who own these titles need to have ALL Titles released in 4K if remastered in 4K. STOP WASTING YOUR TIME and EFFORT and GIVE US WE THE PEOPLE 4K TITLES . LESS THAN THIS is a WASTE of EVERYBODIES TIME and MONEY.

I would love to have Flags of Our Fathers and Letters from Iwo Jima in 4K. Sadly, it doesn't seem terribly likely though.

I mostly only am getting Criterions I know are not 4K unless I absolutely need the title. I think I got The Sacrifice recently, but I wanted to see that, and yeah I agree it is starting to just look like a complete waste of time. I have stopped buying most blurays at this point. Do The Right Thing was on my list, but so far I have resisted. I already have the original bluray, and you know that is coming to 4K at some point soon. It's getting pretty annoying honestly. But these smaller studios do need support, which is why I got the film mentioned above and a few others.

This. I know these comments are old, but this isn't isolated and holy shit.

People act like blu ray is like putting in a VHS tape compared to 4K, a format that has hit ceiling in market penetration.

I don't have a 4K tv yet. I do have a few 4K titles because it worked out price wise to get the blu ray that way, but the upgrade just isn't the same for me as with VHS to DVD and from DVD to Blu ray.
