Whenever I search on some item plus "Blu-ray" DVDs show up in the results. It's as if eBay search treats them as interchangeable words. A simple, but annoying fix is to add -DVD to your search to eliminate them from your result.

That's not always effective since some sellers fail to provide the format. You might be missing some listings using that method.

That's true... depends on the item you're searching for. eBay is tailored to the stupidest users now. They used to have wild card searches which were great for finding what you wanted.. It's too bad that feature was removed in 2012.

I noticed that too lately on ebay.ca. I have found in some cases (not all) that even though the product listing title says its DVD and the picture shows the DVD version sellers are putting the format as "blu-ray" for some reason, hence why it shows up when you search for blu-rays. It is annoying for sure.
With that being said they are a large number of DVDs showing up when you type blu-ray like the OP said and there is no "blu-ray" text anywhere in the listing. This is pretty new as I have only noticed it the last couple of days. You can filter out the search to only show the blu-ray format but then you are missing out the "not specified" section. This is pretty annoying. When I list a Blu-ray on eBay now, my listing often gets buried in all of listings that come up for the DVD. If someone is specifically looking for the Blu-ray this makes it harder for them to find your listing.

Advanced search - key word blu-ray then choose exact words exact order then choose category dvd and blu-ray and hit search button. that seems to work for me. You can then follow the search to save it if you wish. Typing "blu-ray" with the quotes in the regular search box seems to work most of the time but has failed occasionally.
