Default HD 2008 Forecast

What do you think are going to be some of the biggest or best-selling new titles to debut on both Blu-ray and HD-DVD this new year? Here are some obvious-but-almost-certain ones...

"Iron Man" (Paramount Pictures/Marvel Studios, HD-DVD)

"Speed Racer" (Warner Bros. Pictures, Blu-ray and HD-DVD)

"The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian" (Walt Disney Pictures, Blu-ray)

"Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull" (Paramount Pictures, HD-DVD)

"The Incredible Hulk" (Universal Pictures/Marvel Studios, HD-DVD)

"Wanted" (Universal Pictures, HD-DVD)

"Hellboy II: The Golden Army" (Universal Pictures, HD-DVD)

"The Dark Knight" (Warner Bros. Pictures, Blu-ray and HD-DVD)

"The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor" (Universal Pictures, HD-DVD)

A lot of those titles will not be coming out on Blu-ray (or HD-DVD) until probably 2009...I'm talking specifically about titles that have a decent chance of being available by the end of 2008.

"The Golden Compass" was pretty much D.O.A. to most moviegoers, it seems.

Actually, it seems to be doing better overseas. So far, it has made around $90 million (US and international box office). Still $90 million to go to break even with the production budget. Yes, it did flop hard here in Canada and USA.

We still have to wait and see how well it does overseas over the next few weeks. It just came out a little more than a week ago.
