3D-2K w/HDR on UHD BD disc - Blu-ray Forum

UHD specs do not include 3D video. Some of the announced UHD titles are native 3D shot in 2K. Wouldn't it make more sense to put 3D 2K video on a UHD BD disc, compliment it with rec.2020 and HDR(and higher bitrates thanks to extra space on disc)

Now I have to make a choice, I can either get the Martian on 3D BD with rec.709 or upscaled 4K with rec.2020 and HDR.

I understand what you mean but the trouble is the UHD spec doesn't just leave out 4K 3D, it doesn't include 1080p 3D either. That UHD players can play back 3D BD is simply a result of the manufacturers wanting legacy compatibility with those discs.
