Default Into The Night (1985)

There are getting to be quite a few Blus of John Landis films but no sign of one of my favourites. It has quite a strange tone that people either love or hate typified by the Iranian killers who are simultaneously completely inept and utterly brutal. Absolutely packed with blink and you'll miss them cameos including seventeen film directors. Universal aren't exactly earning a reputation for care with back catalogue titles after what they did to Tremors and Darkman but the DVD is pretty poor so a blu should make a decent upgrade. It'd be worth it just to hear BB King's marvellous title song in HD

Sadly there's still no sign of this. Twins and Joe Versus the Volcano are also absent. It's a terrible shame, as they all deserve better.

What a great, understated sleeper this is. Goldblum, Pheifer, and Bowie are excellent. This is one of those movies that people missed but when see it are surprised at how cool it is.

The "Why Can't I Sleep?" monologue by Goldblum towards the end is one of the greatest movie scenes ever. So sad that this is the forgotten Landis classic, way better than The Blues Brothers or Coming to America.

I'd love to see this on Blu and keep hoping it gets picked up by Shout! Factory. At the very least, I'm sure Landis would sit down for a new interview.

Landis briefly discusses the film here:

I also recommend his epic Kevin Pollak's Chat Show interview but he doesn't mention this film:
