Aaron Eckhart joins Tom Hanks in Captain Sully movie (Exclusive).

Eckhart will play the co-pilot in the Warner Bros. film, which Clint Eastwood is Directing.

Hanks will star as Chesley "Sully" Sullenberger, the pilot who safely landed his plane full of 155 passengers in the Hudson after both engines were knocked out by a flock of geese. The "Miracle on the Hudson" made national headlines in January 2009 and Captain Sully was deemed the "Captain Cool" by then-New York City mayor Michael Bloomberg.

Eckhart will play Jeff Skiles, who was the first officer and co-pilot on the Airbus A320. He was manually flying the plane when the birds crashed into the engines. He helped Sully safely land the US Airways plane.

Clint Eastwood will direct the film, which will have a script by Todd Komarnicki, who is drawing from Sullenberger's life and memoir.

Warner Bros. is behind the movie, which is being produced by Eastwood, Tim Moore and veteran producers Allyn Stewart and Frank Marshall.

I don't know if this is just a bad joke attempt but you should really read up on what happened if you believe that. Also, his heroism went beyond just the landing of the plane.

I don't get the fascination with films/tv programs about plane disasters. Flying is crap enough without spending the entire journey wondering just how you are going to die......

I wonder how dreary and depressing the movie will be this time. Then again, Eastwood makes that tone work, so it's all good.

Wasn't 20th Century Fox involved with this project? I remember hearing that Eastwood's next film got into something of a distribution snafu between Fox and Warner Bros.

For a minute I didn't read it properly and thought it was gonna be about the plane hijacked by those people in Africa who wanted to get to Australia despite not enough fuel, and I was like "Man, he really is getting typecast".

A little skeptical of Tom Hanks being Sully; this role seems tailor made for Eric Roberts so it's kind of odd how he's not playing the lead. Oh, well; Eastwood is a great enough director that I am excited for this nevertheless.
