I own the Sony UBP-X800M2 and I'm very pleased with it and its performance, but I'm not a guy like him who relies on hardware for reviews like that one, nor am I an extreme cinephile who is obsessed with having the best kind of hardware, the very best kind of discs, or I'm miserable, etc. I take it as it comes and I don't even consider myself a high level amateur. When I was a kid, color TVs were coming into the mainstream. I remember when my father bought his very first color television and his modest excitement at finally being able to own one. So, naturally, comparing the technology from back then to what we have available to us now is no comparison. My 55" LG TV and my 4K Sony Player is the best hardware I've ever owned, and the TV is just mid-range, but for me it's great, and I love the picture. So I don't get caught up on every little nuance when it comes to this stuff. I just don't feel the need to own the best of everything. I go for what I think is practical and will satisfy me, and I like my current setup. Prime's show Fallout, for instance, looks great on it, and so do the 4k discs that I watch through my Sony Player.

Oppo left the player market for the higher margins and more frequently replaced/ upgraded cell phones they manufacture in Asia. Even though you don’t see them in North America, they’re a huge presence in their home market.
