At this point, it appears that the Amazon listing might not be correct, and the listing at Universum is very bare right now, but it could be a Blu-ray upgrade of this DVD from 2013, or a compilation different from that. Regardless, the compilation will also feature appearances from the cast of Shaun the Sheep, amongst other guests.
I don't really know anything about the show other than what I've just looked up, but it seems similar to something like Noddy/Paddington Bear, but with the difference of having aired consistently for 45 years, since 1971. Apparently, the Mouse is hugely well-known in German Europe, on par, I assume, with Elmo in the United States. Portions of it would seem to have been made available with English audio, but I can't recall it being in the UK, and I doubt it has been on in the US outside of a specialty German channel, if anything. In any event, I think I shall get this disc, if only to support eclectic releases like this on Blu-ray. The show looks like great fun even if you only know a few words of German, like me. ![]() |

Funny to see a non-German interested in this show.
![]() Yes – it is very famous here in Germany and maybe the best children’s program we have. My kids and I hardly ever miss one episode. It’s a half hour show with a mixture of funny stuff (short animated or puppet stories) and knowledge stuff. The later part is actually the one the show is most famous for. You learn how certain things are made or work and more often than not it is very educational for the parents as well. All the content has a lot of heart in it and is far away from the flashy and spectacular style of modern shows. Maybe you can compare the intention of the show to Sesame Street, just for slightly older kids. It seems as if the Blu-ray will mainly contain the fun parts and only two educational shorts. Slightly disappointing. |
