Default Please Help!!

OK so I know there are numerous threads out there debating the specifics of this issue but none cover my exact situation. I am trying to get the best audio from my PS3. I use a HDMI cable to go to my tv and then an optical cable from my tv to my receiver. The problem I am having is how to go about this whole PCM or Dolby Digital ordeal that so many tend to deal with. Which do I pick on my PS3? LPCM or Bitrate? The reason this is so different for me than the other threads i've read is because I go through my tv to get to my receiver which I do because I have multiple HDMI hookups and it is much more convenient. Also my TV has a setting for either PCM or Dolby Digital to make things even more complicated. If it helps my receiver is a 5.1 system capable of most decoding (not extremely high end but a good receiver, just doesn't have hdmi inputs only optical). Please help on what settings I should choose

I would honestly use PCM even though you only have optical and can only get 2 ch PCM. I was in the same situation you are in and 2 ch PCM was still the best option for me. If you can afford it some time down the road I would upgade to a 1.3 HDMI reciever.

But for now use PCM.

You need to choose bitstream

Don't use PCM with the optical cable, as it'll only carry a stereo signal. Choose Dolby Digital, TrueHD, or any DTS track wherever possible

If I choose bitstream then what should I choose on the TV? I tried choosing DD and PCM both and my receiver still shows the signal as PCM? The tricky thing about all this is my audio from the ps3 is going through a HDMI cable but the tv transfers that signal to an optical cable so thats whats really confusing me as far as settings.

Run the optical cable straight from the PS3 to your receiver.

You may lose DTS support through the TV
