I'm curious to see any interviews with the director about the choice for the makeup here. It seems like there is some heavy prosthetic work happening in addition to the darkening of Saldana's skin. Curious choice to be sure. Not sure what the compulsion was in the first place to change it from her normal face.

It's distracting to be sure, it almost looks as if she is acting through a mask.

Feel sorry for the filmmakers - what has she every stared in that has been successful? Both Trek and Guardians are group pieces and don't rely on her but any other films she had done have usually bombed. She really isn't a draw despite how much money she has made.

I honestly forgot all about this. I don't think the makeup looks bad, but people are angry and have a right to be. She darkened her skin to play a role that's important to people. It's the same thing as that fake rumor of Beyonce wanting to star in a movie about that one lady who I forgot the name of right now.

People also mad because Zoe is one of those black people that is sometimey with who she is. One min people of color doesn't exist, next minute she's a black woman. Despite her flip flopping on who she is, she keeps taking roles of black women in movies.

I like her best green.

No no one should ever do blackface. This is a disgrace! There are plenty of dark skinned actresses that could play the part. This was just wrong all the way around and I wont watch it simply because of it. Ill wait for this to get the proper treatment cause this one sure didnt. Got Em!!

Naw man theres plenty of actresses that could play Simone. Just peep this link below and there are some prime candidates here. I dont agree with all these but I like a few and much better than Saldana. I really like Tika Sumpter and think she would be perfect for the role. Got Em!!

Nah man, it's exactly what it is. Blackface was used to turn non-black actors and actresses into a black character. It was used to specifically to keep black people out of the entertainment industry. To refrain from having to pay them.

Zoe Saldana IS black. All they did was make her complexion darker. It's not giving a white actress money to play a black character. It's paying a black actress to portray a black character. The only issue is how dark she is.

Really surprised Uzo Aduba isn't on that list. Her performance in Orange is the New Black should be enough to convince anyone that she's a highly skilled actress. Plus her resemblance is a lot closer than Zoe's (and not just talking about complexion either).
