Default How diverse are you in your film tastes? Rate yourself!

The thing is this:
I have noticed in many forums, that usually people aren't so much diverse in their tastes in film.
There will be a group that watches only Hollywood Blockbusters or B movies, another that will watch only recent films and not older at all, other "elitists" (please no offense anyone) will watch only highly-regarded films (eg. movies from the Criterion collection) and so on.

The thing I like about myself ( ) is that i feel I'm quite diverse (not in the degree I would like to) in that i can enjoy both a Kieslowski movie and a Jean-Claude Van Damme movie, a classic Disney animation film and an anime, a Star Wars film and a black and white 30s comedy, a big production like Cleopatra and a small simple film like Conrack, a Schwarzenegger flick like Commando and a romantic period drama like The Age of Innocence, a Terrence Mallick film and a lighthearted romantic comedy, and so on..

In a scale of 1-10 where 10 is the most diverse, and 1 is the least, I would rate me with an 8. (still would have to watch more foreign films and also I have stopped watching recent films because I'm not very fond of them for a number of reasons).

So, what would you say about yourself?

I like all the transformers movies, Sunset Blvd and Kill Bill, I'd give myself an 8 also.

I dunno, a 7 maybe.

I like a lot of mainstream films but there are a lot I don't even look twice at too. And while I love foreign films I do tend to gravitate toward Japan and Europe.

But overall I'd say I have a fairly healthy range of interests.

I would say that I'm a 9. I'll watch and possibly will enjoy anything. I rarely get disappointed and I get laughed at, discredited (whatever that means with me. It ain't my job), or alienated a lot because of that.

I don't know. I'd say mine is diverse. Watched a few different genres this month and they were produced over last 60 years.

Not crazy on Criterion or foreign films, though. Will not buy Transformers or Avatar, but I really enjoy The Expendables and G.I. Joe Retaliation.

As far as a number, maybe next poster can tell me. This thread could be like https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...the+collection

Maybe a 5/10.
I'm a creature of habit and I find a lot of comfort in that. I approach movies like I do food. I go to the same restaurants and order the same meals knowing I'm going to like what I get.
I've taken plenty of chances on different styles and it only confirms what I already know. At this point in my life, I like what I like. I don't feel compelled to see everything that's trending or getting buzz in TV and movies knowing that I'm probably not going to like it anyway. A couple commercials or previews and some knowledge of directors and actors usually tells me all I need to know.
I'm happy to stay in the genres I usually like as I usually come away satisfied, getting pretty much what I expected.

I think I would give myself an 8. I've pretty much enjoyed films from all genres. My first love is Horror but I've enjoyed summer blockbusters, silent films, comedy, foreign, romantic comedies Sci FI, so on and so forth. The only genre that doesn't interest me would be Westerns.

Films I've watched in last 2 weeks,

The Driver, 1978 dir: Walter Hill
Ran, 1985 dir: Akira Kurosawa
Red River, 1948 dir: Howard Hawks
Ugetsu Monogatari, 1954 dir: Kenji Mizoguchi
13 Assassins, 2010 dir: Takashi Miike
Captain Phillips, 2013 dir: Paul Greengrass
The Crow, 1994 dir: Alex Proyas
Princess Mononoke, 1997 dir: Hayao Miyazaki
La Grande Illusion, 1937, Jean Renoir

Quite a lot of Japanese cinema, but that's just coincidental although I do have Mizoguchi's Sansho Dayu still to watch, and I plan to finally watch Heaven's Gate tomorrow evening.

I would say I'm about an 8 or a 9. I really don't discriminate when it comes to time periods or nationalities, and I mostly love every genre imaginable. Although I still can't get into erotic cinema or gorehound cinema. Whether or not I like a film goes into a whole other subjective territory, but it typically has nothing to do with the aforementioned aspects above.

The other day I had to laugh when I came home from Barnes & Noble with Chaplin's City Lights . . . and Night of the Creeps! I'd give myself an 8.

I'm open to most any era or genre of films, except for really raunchy comedy and "non-stop action" type summer films. But if it has a story . . . I'm in.

I'd rate myself a 9.5 out of 10. I will definitely watch almost anything:

Big budget films

Low budget films

Independent films

Comedies

Dramas

Dram-edies

Movies from almost all eras - 1930's - current

Going along with the above, all types of b&w films (older & newer)

All types of foreign films (I don't mind reading subtitles)

Action/Thrillers

Suspense

Sci-fi

Horror - low-budget & big budget, though I especially enjoy '70's & '80's horror movies

Super-hero movies

Fantasy films

Martial Arts films

Sports movies

The only genres I really can't get into are old silent movies, or chick flicks/love stories. That being said, several years back I saw & truly enoyed the first "Twilight" film, not thinking I would like it that much. I later had a conversation with some women who were talking about this, and mentioned that it was a great horror movie - they said, "It wasn't a horror movie! It was a love story!"

Also saw the second Twilight flick & thought it was good, though not as great as the first...

that is a very good question. when I was a kid I was more into scifi stuff. I have been more opened to seeing other films.. recently been getting older movies from the 30s to the 60s. I have have foreign films and comedies. i have seen my share of arnold and transformers stuff. Even seen a bunch of comic book related films. I would think that my taste is 7 or 8.

I'd probably give myself a 6-7.

I like just about any genre but I haven't seen much older films. I've seen plenty from the 60s but not much before then. I'd like to open myself up to a wider range. I'd like to watch more indie films and films such as the ones Criterion offer.

I watch basically everything, and I give everything a fair chance.

Probably a 7.5 to an 8.

Are you rating diversity by era? nationality? genre? scale of production?

Taking in to account all of that I doubt I'm even a 5.

I'd say probably around an 8. I like to think I'm pretty open minded, I don't discriminate based on age, genre or culture of origin, in fact the diversity and what you can experience and learn about other times and places is part of what I love about cinema. If a movie catches my interest, I'll watch it.

I don't want to go all the way to 10, because I do have my biases and leanings. I generally seem to be more interested in films that are 20+ years old, and I tend to avoid comedies of the more immature/stupid variety.
