Default Bargining power???

hey all, i was sitting here thinking on this subject:

How much bargining power do you think we have at our local retail stores?

what i mean is for example, say i went into CC to buy an onkyo receiver 605 that retails for $499 there. how hard or easy would it be to try and bargin with the salesperson? like say "well i have seen it on sale here for $399 in the past and thats what i am willing to pay for it" would it depend on how bad they want to make a sale or do you think they would give in to the customer? wanted to hear thoughts on this?

i have never tried it before because i usually get things on sale and just dont ask, but now i was thinking of doing trying to make my own sale at the stores. i get it all the time at my work with the indians and other nationalities, they love to barter with us americans

The Magnolia home theater center (which is in some Best Buys) will let you barter, but the regular Best Buy area will not.

As a former assistant store mgr for circuit city I could tell you the salespeople don't care about making the sale since they don't work on commission and have incentive to close the deal. There main job is to provide great service and recommend products and accessories to compliment the customers purchase. However, they will price match a local competitor if you bring in the ad from another brick and mortar store. You can also check circuitcity.com for a cheaper price and print it out and bring it to the store with you for a price match.

good i have someone that worked at CC. could you possibly answer a return question?

if you receive an item as a gift and have no receipt to return it with, what happens to returning it?

GO in, ask for that price, and if they dont match it, just repeat "i will only buy it at this price, if you cant do it then ill leave" and follow through with your word

What do you have to lose?

Hey, sorry the thread dropped off the main page. To answer your question it just gets scanned in and you'll get the lowest price the item sold for within the last 30 days.

thanks, do you really need a reciept to return it? i was also told that you can return one item a year without a receipt with your drivers license #

is that true?

No, you don't need a receipt this time of year to return an item. During non-holiday season it might be a little tougher and would depend on the manager that day and how nice/polite you were. Trust me, that makes all the difference. If my csa's told me a customer was giving them a hard time and being obnoxious then I wouldn't be as willing to work with them as opposed to a customer who was polite and proper with them. As far as the one return a year thing w/o a receipt there is no such thing. You can return as many items you want with no receipt as long as the mgr approves it. Your driver's license is just for identification purposes only.
