Two members of the Journey team (Creative director and Music composer) have created their own company, named Giant Squid.



This E3 was the occasion for them to showcase their first title, ABZÛ, during the Sony conference, and it is imo a complete stunner.

Giant Squad was started by former Journey art director Matt Nava, and immediately they were hard at work on a new game. That game was revealed today at Sony's E3 press conference as ABZÛ.

Based on the trailer ABZÛ looks like a whimsical adventure with a killer art style, and I can't wait to see more. It will have a console-exclusive debut on the PS4.

This is NOT from the people who did Journey. This is ONE guy from ThatGameCompany and the person who did the music for some of their games.

ThatGameCompany did Journey. Giant Squid is doing this.

Developer Giant Squid debuted Abzû during Sony's E3 2014 press conference, inviting players into a world teeming with serene sea life. But the trailer's diver is a stranger in a strange land. What lies down the fathoms? We recently played Abzû, getting some insight into its mysteries, gameplay, and the team at Giant Squid. Here's a look at the game and a sneak peak for our feature on it in the upcoming July issue (#267).

Players can press a button to assemble and swim with schools of fish...

...or even ride larger, more solitary animals like this sea turtle – if they trust you.

The game contains tens of thousands of fish of all kinds and through different eras, with possibly thousands onscreen at the same time. They have their own routines and exist in the game's food chain – which the player can have a hand in.

A shark statue? How'd that get there?

Drones can be revived in order to mine mineral pools in the environment...

...or be eaten by the sharks (concept art, above).

As you explore deeper into the game you'll uncover different environments with their own puzzles.

I'm very excited for this. Underwater life has always been a personal obsession of mine and the potential for another beautiful Journey-like game is very high, especially with the creative director and composer on board.

Sometimes you have to go to the game's PS4 Store page and there will be an "Add On", where you can find a theme for the game.

I will have to try this game. It reminds me of Ecco the Dolphin, but in a 3D world to explore instead of 2D.

Probably a dumb question but did you go into your theme section and see if it stealth installed it from the disc? I wasn't clear if you looked there yet or just looked on the storefront.

According to that thread, the free theme is only available for us copies and the redemption code is found somewhere on/under the front cover.
