Default I have a weird question

What are the black sticker strips in cases? Is it some kind of security? I was gonna switch cases with one of my movies cause a case is messed up and noticed the strip. Is the strip linked to a certain movie?

It's supposed to be some kind of security strip. Have you ever peeled one off? If you do, you'll see a metal strip underneath. I thought they did away with those as I haven't seen them in a long time.

It is a security strip..that's what sets off the alarm if you try to walk out of a store without them deactivating it at the register.

The case is for Alice in wonderland the live action one. I recently got it from the Disney movie club. I was gonna put a different movie in the case but don't know if I want too because of the strip.

For a fun prank, put the sticker on the inside pocket of someone's jacket so they set off the alarm at retail stores (provided the sticker hasn't been deactivated).

I used to have a jacket that had a sensor sewn into it that didn't get deactivated, so I'd frequently set off random alarms in stores. It would only set off certain, more sensitive alarms though so it took me a while to figure out what was going on.

That happened to me with a new wallet. Every time I walked into Target it went off. This lasted about 3 months until I figured out the problem.

Having already done my punishment for this, I feel safe sharing it.
Back in the 80's when I was ****-up, I noticed one store that had music cassettes (before CD came out) would place a "Sold" sticker on any tape you bought there. So I get the brilliant idea, keep a couple of those stickers in my wallet, so if I see a tape I want (or someone else wanted, I was taking orders for a while), pop on a sticker and walk on out. Worked like a charm until I was with a friend. He wanted one thing, I got it for him. I only had the one sticker as others fell apart with repeated use, so I told him to stay outside and I was gonna go in and grab the new Dokken or Ratt tape. His dumb ass follows me in with the tape, without the sticker, and the alarm goes off. He instantly says "it's a tape he stole and sold to me" when confronted. I deny, but wait for the cops, and they tell me to go home. Couple hours later the cops call and tell me I'm not going to be arrested, and they won't talk to my parents, but this will be on my record. I think it's a prank but agree, esp since my parents wouldn't have to hear it. Next year I get in trouble for some other thing, and sure enough in court, they bring up the shoplifting charge.

So I take it the SOLD sticker was something that deactivated the sensor for the alarm?

When I worked at Blockbuster Video years ago, one of the employees casually put a security sticker on the back of my belt one night. Couldn't figure out why the alarm kept going off every time I left the front counter. Another time, the same thing kept happening to a manager but none of us had stuck one on him. He was starting to think the security system had just gotten faulty, until he discovered one of the stickers must have fallen on the floor and he'd stepped on it, as he eventually found one stuck to the bottom of his shoe.

That happened to me several times working at Blockbuster. I always ended up stepping on those damn stickers. Every time I set it off I'd check the bottom of my shoes and there would always been one there.

Yeah, an old school deactivator. I noticed when one sticker was starting to fall apart and missing a small pie slice (they were oval and sliced into 8 or so pieces) that the alarm chirped, but didn't go off completely. Maybe it was just thin metal in it that blocked the sensor. The stickers definitely had something inside.

Hey now, those are probably the 2 best bands from the "hair era". Certainly 2 of very few I will still listen to today!

This sounds like a fun "Back in my Day" story....

Back in MY day we actually had to go to the store to steal our music... none of that new fangled digital downloading theft from home crap.

Yeah, and to think that cassette tape he went through all that trouble for what with the shoplifting charge and the cops and everything is worth absolutely nothing to anybody now and is probably disintegrating in a landfill somewhere.

That's where I got the idea. I worked for Blockbuster in my college days, and it was a common prank on newb employees.

Funnily enough I noticed one of these in the Cohen Collection (Queen Margot) that I opened today. Never seen one in any of my other region A blus.

I can't believe I didn't come up with that line, BRAVO!!!!!!

You should try to sell that joke to a comedian, just frame it today with how lazy kids are they won't get out of bed to steal a tune. Plus, if I wanted to just steal a tune, it had to have a cassette single! I had to do full albums, even heavier lifting.
