Default How to clean steelbook?

Hello guys and girls,

I have a steelbook that has glue on the front cover, and its driving me nuts. Would it hurt the steelbook if I use water to clean it of?

Thanks.

if its just sticky residue, just use a piece of tape to get rid of it

if that doesnt work, you can try water but im not sure if it will cause rust in the long term

i have used acetone before to clean, and it worked great. acetone evaporates quickly and doesnt leave any grease, like wd-40 does

FYI.... I would NOT use acetone on painted metal, unless you want that spot to fade. It desolves paint quite well.

That is good to know. Acetone is pretty powerful stuff, so I would just use a bit of caution if on was to use it. Maybe a q-tip?

Avoid any water contact on Steelbooks, especially matte ones. This WILL cause rust at a later stage. It eats away very slowly.

Water and soap won't hurt the SteelBook, but it may not pull off the glue very well. If you don't have the original sticker that left the glue there, I normally have great results with using another piece of tape (i.e. duct tape) to repeatedly "dab" the glue to pull it off. Failing that I will pull out the "Goo Gone".

LOL! Thanks guys!

I tried using a soft cloth and water and it did wipe most of the marks. However, if I put the steelbook near a light I can see the clue marks still their LOL! Just not with the white sticker mark.

;(

I use just water and my finger. Just rub your went finger back and forth on the spot (without pressing down) and the residue will come off eventually.

For uk owners I recommend sticky stuff remover from Amazon. Just a small amount on a soft cloth and wipe the area, then polish using another soft cloth. All glue and dirt will be removed instantly.

Forget acetone, this is the manly way to do it. And steel wool just takes too much effort.

Lighter fuel + some cotton wool gets rid of most glue rests (and fingerprints as well). Plus, it's not as aggressive as aceton.
