1970-1990 probably the most iconic run in film history. So many films that came out during that time that still influence how films are made in Hollywood today.

To me 59 to 78 this twenty year period is filled with classics. Also some that aren't considered classics but hold up well even today. The actors and actresses from then so many great one to many to name. Its the golden age of cinema.

I wish it would have been 1970 to 1990 and my choice would have bee easier...
but I went with '59 to '78 since there are tons of my favorite films during this time frame. Jaws Psycho Close Encounters Halloween Death Wish Dirty Harry all of the Bond films during this period Patton Monty Python And The Holy Grail Animal House Halloween Black Christmas The Omen The Exorcist The Birds 2001 .... just immediately off the top of my head.... |

I get what you're saying. I based it on 20-year periods leading up to now. I kind of like the way the years break out for films. The time periods kind of seem to make sense in a way. I like that Star Wars belongs to 59 to 78 and Alien belongs to 79 to 98. |

Nope. It's based on 20-year increments up until now.
I guess I could have done 1920 to 1939, 1940 to 1959, 1960 to 1979, 1980 to 1999, 2000 to 2018. But I like the poll as is. And it still wouldn't have your 70-90 time period. Last edited by Jar Jar Stinks; 08-25-2018 at 03:23 PM. |

Oh wow, tough question.
I'm a big French New Wave fan, so pretty much anything there. Godard's my favorite filmmaker, so you can rank those up. Contempt may be my favorite film ever. Resnais' work during that time was amazing. Last Year at Marienbad is brilliantly opaque, and Hiroshima mon Amour (OK, 1959 technically, but still) is just beautiful. Etc. I could go on and on. Then you have the Italians. My god, you have 8 1/2 and La Dolce Vita, and others just from Fellini. And that is arguably Bergman's strongest period. Hell, Persona alone makes it the decade of the century. ![]() |

Objectively: 1959 to 1978 (a ‘golden age of cinema’ as others have said)
Subjectively: 1979 to 1998 (the era when a lot of my top favourite films were made) |

1959 to 1978
What I do know is that take away the magic that is the Marvel Superhero movies and this whole century has basically been substandard compared to what came before...maybe Y2K is hitting very very slowly? |
