Knowing nothing about Sébastien Japrisot, I’d be more tempted to import the US release for the interviews.

I much prefer documentary's to interview's and
tbh I would just want the cheapest version as neither have the best PQ
so will prob get UK as will be around half the price

Japrisot's an interesting figure: among many others he wrote Rider on the Rain and A Very Long Engagement.

I got my copy earlier today. I've not watched it yet, but given the info posted in the DVDBeaver review of the 2015 US Blu-ray here, it looks like the UK may have waited four years to get...the exact same encode. Very strange, especially as the two extras have been encoded with an average video bitrate that is some 10 Mbps higher than the main feature.

However, while the video may not be different, on the bright side, the yellow subtitles from the US disc have been replaced with white ones that appear to be properly Anglicised, too.

they aren't comparing with US release so will be comparing to older DVD

the dvdcompare review says its most likely from an older DVD master (just like the review said for the US release)
so obviously better than DVD but could do with new 4k scan

Hey logboy,

I'm not exactly sure when I can watch the film. Perhaps later tonight, but as I'm really the only one up for arthouse cinema, I have to find the time to watch it when the family is away from the home theatre.

Once I get the time to watch, I'll take a look, but based on the specs, I would wait for a cheaper price than £17 unless this is already one of your favorite films, or you really like the look of the extras.

If you can get to an HMV, it's in their 2 for £13 offer and should be in the World Cinema section. I got a copy a few weeks back.

The film will get its first release in France this month, apparently from a new 4K master:

Hopefully, this new master will get an English-friendly release soon.

There are several sellers on ebay indicating a release of August 18, 2025 for this... and it is also back on the Rarewaves site for pre-order, after being long OOP.

Anyone know if this is just a re-issue of the exact same release? Or maybe an upgraded version with better encode?

The description on Amazon for the August re-release says this:

According to DVDFr, the 2021 French blu-ray used a 4K master, so if all the specs are correct the UK one is a different (lesser?) master.

this must be the 10th release in the UK because they had changed the name of the lable 2 times till they became cult films and it always seems to be the same special features.
