Default Suggest an upgrade from my ONKYO TX-SR805

So it's been a few years since I've logged in here as I've moved into an apartment and I've only been running a front sound stage, without subwoofer.

I was at Best Buy yesterday and noticed 4k Blu rays are now available so I'd like to upgrade the TV, receiver, and Xbox for 4k. I also noticed that Best Buy no longer sells Pioneer Elite and I've always wanted one ever since I played with the SC-07 years ago. Currently my eyes are set on the SC-95 but I'm nervous that retailers are dropping them. I want a future proof receiver (ha ha) at least for the next 5 years. Any other suggestions or do you guys have a safe online retailer for the SC-95? My Onkyo is a solid receiver but it doesn't even do 3D which is years old tech lol

For a Blu ray player I think I'll upgrade my Xbox one to the new "S" which plays 4k Blu rays.

For a TV, I'm looking at a 65" Sony 4K HDR at Best Buy discounted to $1299 because it's a 2015 model. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/sony-65-...&skuId=2639146

I guess the Denon AVH-X4300H Seems pretty solid. I'm a bit worried about the Onkyo/Pioneer relationship and the fact that crutchfield and best buy don't carry Pioneer Elite anymore

Don't cut your options short. From reviews I've seen at Sound&Vision, all three brands you mention aren't lacking at all.
Check out your preference, look for reviews, then narrow it down, like you are doing now.
The brands you mentioned are still good, maybe glance at others too, if you're inclined. Marantz, Yamaha and Anthem all rock as well.
Unlike in the past, it seems like it'd be difficult to make a bad choice in AVRs nowadays.

I used to have the 805 too, sold it a couple years ago. I have the Pioneer SC 1323 and I don't care for it. I am much happier with my Denon 2200W.

unless they come out with a firmware in the future, the Xbox One S cannot bitstream audio so you won't be able to get ATMOS or DTS:X audio from UHD disc that support it. you will be losing out on half of what the disc can offer. keep that in mind before you purchase the One S if you wanted to take full advantage of the UHD media.

I'm hopeful that they will be able to upgrade the machines to bitstream audio but, why they didn't do it from the beginning, knowing you can't get ATMOS/DTS:X from the disc without that capability is beyond me.

by the way, I had an 805 for a long time, it was a work horse for sure.

hopefully they do fix that, I honestly would rather upgrade my x1 than get a dedicated player, but no bitstream is a deal breaker
