Default Gemini (Sôseiji) (1999) coming from Mondo

https://vimeo.com/398873058

Quote:
Mondo Macabro is extremely excited to bring you the world Blu-ray debut of GEMINI, a blistering film from famed cult director Shinya Tsukamoto.

Based on a story by “ero-guro” author Edogawa Ranpo, GEMINI is a tale of doppelgangers and revenge, set in the early 20th century during, appropriately enough for our current troubles, a plague outbreak. The film is full of hallucinogenic imagery and has an extraordinary, pounding soundtrack that you won’t be able to get out of your mind.

We think it’s one of Tsukamoto’s very best works and one of the most memorable Japanese movies of the 1990s.

We’ll have more info as we get closer to the release date, including the full list of extras and the reversible cover for the LE.

The current plan is to have this release and the LADY KILLS/PERVERTISSIMA double feature go on sale sometime in late April or early May and ship out soon after. However, the COVID-19 crisis is making this schedule extremely fluid at best. But we will be as transparent and forthcoming as possible with this information as soon as we have it.

Yes! Even though I own all the UK releases, like even ignoring the titles I already own, having Killing, Haze, Vital and Gemini all be released this year is nuts. This is the year of Tsukamoto!

And Gemini is by far the most exciting of those. Can't wait for this!

One of my very favourite filmmakers... getting the love he deserves.

Fantastic film. One of the best Japanese films from the 90's. Here is a trailer that gives you an idea what to expect. Love the score.

This is the one blind spot in Shinya Tsukamoto's filmography I have yet to fill. Happy we're getting a blu-ray (hopefully) sometime soon.

I think Lantern (formerly TWC) still has the rights to the first one. I still occasionally see sealed copies in $5 bargain bins more times than I’d like to count.

Can't wait for this. Not the biggest fan of the art, but it will have reserve art. This is truly a fantastic film.

Well, looks like Mondo saw the horrendous artwork on Code Red’s upcoming City of the Living Dead and thought “we can commission artwork just as bad as that”!

Dear mondo, did you hold a competition in a primary school to create new artwork for this release? That cover screams amateur hour!

I'm pretty sure Jared has described that artist as a friend of his, so I would be respectful. Personally, I like it.

I like it too. In fact, I LOVE it. Can't wait to get this in my hands!

It's one of the worst covers I've ever seen, not just in the poor artwork but also because it gives you completely the wrong impression of the film you are about to watch. A newcomer is bound to think this is some trashy cult video nasty circa late 70s/early 80s, not some surreal arthouse Japanese horror. Abysmal doesn't even begin to describe it.

Why? Why is one of Jared's friends above criticism? Why should this be given free ride on these boards when people are queuing up to give Criterion's disastrous cover for their upcoming release of The Lady Eve a good kicking.

If a film or a release or a work of art related to a release is complete garbage, say so!

Yeah, there's a big difference between constructive criticism and comparing one's work to that of a child in primary school...

I didn't say "don't criticize," I encouraged others to be respectful.

I don’t mind it. I was worried it might be one of those sleazy covers Arrow sometimes did. Maybe a better font could be picked.

That's literally what the artwork looks like: Something painted by a child.

It really doesn't. This is what child art looks like:

The kind of hyperbole is totally unnecessary for an insider like Jared who is kind enough to spend his time answering questions and providing updates to the fans on this site.
