Just the recording 4 channels is enough for me to upgrade. So many programs are all on the same time.

Yes there are just too many 4K shows on at the same time.

Sky have a big announcement coming up this month, I wonder if it's going to be announcing their new set top box?

Wonder what it's going to do to set my TV free though? More online TV? Stream downloaded content from your set top box to any mobile device?

Mobile was what I was hearing, something akin to digital copies

I guess if we look at it in context to that video then I guess maybe an entire sky service direct to mobiles? Could say that would be a next step in TV evolution. Take your sky subscription and set top box with you in your pocket.

It doesn't sound like they are hyping up UHD with the whole "Set your TV free" tag.

Maybe they will be saving that for a later reveal?

They can't let BT steal that much of a march on them, unless they have done a deal with Sony or someone for content

That would be cool, SKY definitely have the money bags to snag that kind of distribution deal.

Although I'm in no hurry to upgrade to any kind of UHD services. I won't be getting a UHDTV for a good year or so. No way am I jumping on the early adopter bandwagon this time around.

Seems to me Sky are doing everything they can to hold on to the premier league rights as well if they lose them in the future they lose many subscribers.
I wait and see what they announce on Wednesday.

I think I'm one of the very few people that doesn't watch Football, so I'm not too fussy about what happens to those licenses. I pretty much bought SKY for the F1 channel.

If they had a F1 UHD then I could very well have to upgrade

I might not even have SKY come March next year anyway, only got it because they offered every channel for £40p/m so if they don't offer me the same when I renew then they know what they can do with it

I think it's extortion what Sky charges, although I am interested in what they announce. To be honest the only thing that will really open my eyes to them is if they got rid of the multi room fee. Any picture quality advancements should just be as standard.

I don't want my TV to be set free. Anything that encourages/accelerates this craze for mobile is a bad thing in my eyes.

Yeah, I don't think anyone is really asking for it but I guess SKY are going to give it to us anyway. Wouldn't make a difference to me as long as it's free.

Just remember that if they put their prices up you have no obligation to stay with them even if you are mid contract. As long as you give them 30 days notice you can leave without charge.

I did this with BT Infinity recently since they upped their price by £1 to offset the cost of them getting some more Football rights. It wasn't benefiting me so I told them I no longer needed their service.

I am held to ransom with the football to be honest. If it wasn't for that, I would have got shot years ago.

I feel the same with the F1 channel, it's just not the same watching highlights on BBC. But if it means I have to pay more than £40 a month I might have to suck it up and cancel

It is pretty great having the sports and movie channels. I just don't think I could justify paying full whack. I'm sure retentions would go some way to offering a decent deal though to try and keep our custom. At least I hope they do

That is the plan with me. If it works for others, why not me? Or you? It's worth a try anyway.

That is it we are not asking for it and has no benefit to me Sky are going ahead because they think this is what their customers want.
But if they put up the price because of this then i have to cancel Sky.
