Disney Disney's Zootopia AKA Zootropolis (2016) Blu-ray 3D [Region Free]

Zootopia 3D Blu-ray

Zootopia 3D Blu-ray

Zootopia will be released on Blu-ray 3D on June 7, 2016. Is this a change of heart for Disney?

Cinema Blend gave the movie's 3D a very positive review:

Zootopia is a pleasure, and so is its 3D presentation.

Saw it in 3D the other night, the 3D was good but not great. But really hoping we get a home 3D release and this isn't another case like Frozen.

Certainly hope so... would give the format the boost it needs as attention has shifted away to 4K.

Cinema Blend gave the movie's 3D a very positive review:
I can't get too excited about a pre-order, rather than an official annoucement. But would be great if Disney has changed their mind on 3D, I've moved on with Frozen and BH6 and bought the 2D editions (after holding off for like a year on Frozen before it looked obvious that wasn't coming), but certainly would consider buying 3D editions of this, Finest Hours, The Jungle Book, and The BFG depending on how the films turn out.

This is the Zootopia trailer that will get me to see the movie, but hopefully there is a lot more situational comedy like this.

Interesting to see the pre orders up for a blu ray 3D in the US. Possibly Disney's way of gauging the interest in the 3D version at home. Maybe if they get enough pre orders, Disney animation will reconsider blu ray 3D in the US for 2016?

Also saw Zootopia 3D and I agree, the 3D was good, medium with some mild 3D, but nothing special. Compounding the average 3D of Zootopia (and almost zero pop outs) is the fog effect throughout the whole movie that dilutes the effectiveness of the 3D.

Zootopia 3D:
3D Layers: 7/10 Mostly low medium 3D layering. This would've been amazing if it was pushed to strong 3D.
3D Pop Out Count: 1/10 Hardly any pop outs.
3D Framing: 8/10 Nicely framed for 3D.
3D Total: 7/10
3D Comparable to: 3D of Wreck it Ralph

The movie Zootopia was good, and I'd go for the 3D blu ray over the 2D version, but the 3D is just average at best. Disney's stereographer played it very safe and could learn some things from the director of stereo 3D from Pixar's Good Dinosaur, which has mostly high medium and some strong 3D and looks great in 3D.

Pre-ordered just to show my support, and so I'll have something to complain about if it gets cancelled.

Can you say something about the fog effect? I'm not sure what this is.

I was able to see this today , The movie is a fun movie with a good message to keep it interesting. It was good movie to take the kids to watch.

I would describe The 3D as Safe ..... It was never pushed too far for depth or pop outs, It stayed medium throughout the whole movie.

I didn't see it as fog. They went for a more realistic lighting effect. So the cgi colors are a bit more subdued and most day scenes have the hazy look at times you get in the real world when you look at something in the distance. It doesn't have that razor sharp day glo look of say Madagascar 3. I thought it was going to bother me but once I got used to it it looks pretty great.

I saw it at IMAX and the 3D was very nice for being all depth. I don't mind Disney's conservative 3D because it's well done. Gonna have to go projector when my TV dies someday. The huge screen is the way to see this. Great cgi and the city is impressive. My favorite was the building over the waterfall.

Like a poster said in the regular thread, the advertising did not represent this movie well at all. It looked pretty lame to me and I only went because a friend dragged me along. I was very pleased to be wrong. It's got a lot of humor that works, the look won me over and I enjoyed it very much. (For parents, the kids in my theater were fully engaged and laughing hysterically at times. Especially the Au Naturale spa sequence)

zoofog.jpg

The edges of the screen tend to soften likely due to a special filter used by the creative team. The above scene didn't look too foggy, but it's a hint of what appears later in the movie. It's not bad and it's an intentional effect, but it softens the clarity of the 3D and images in my view. Had the 3D been stronger, I wouldn't have noticed it as much.

i'm already thinking about going to see this in IMAX 3D since it's not gonna cut it on a small theater screen.

I saw my first viewing in Imax 3D and the 3d looked incredible in that format. I personally think Disney did an amazing job with the 3d. I thought it was mostly strong throughout and it definitely made you feel like you could step inside the intracately detailed worlds of the film.

The movie stumped me a bit in terms of how I felt about it, but it's a very good movie that will probably turn into a great one for me on second viewing. The production design and animation alone are worthy of a viewing and a big artistic achievement.

Also 80 percent of theater locations were playing the film in 3d which is a nice surprise and gives me hope for the future of 3d

The movie definitely played out like a crime TV investigation case, so in that sense it wasn't a grand, epic, emotionally driven story like we sometimes expect with Pixar and Disney films. It was more down to earth and reality based aside from the fact the characters were animals in anthropomorphic form resembling humans. I still enjoyed it for the most part.

Glad you liked the 3D. When you mention strong 3D, are you comparing it to other Disney films in 3D or to the strong 3D of Turtle's Tale 2 and Thunder and the House of Magic by NWave?

If I compare the 3D to those films, Zootopia's 3D is mostly low medium to medium range 3D. Good, but not strong 3D.

It would be nice to see Disney offering 3D again for their owned titles.

I would love to see the U.S. get a 3D combo for their live action film The Finest Hours.

The more pre orders they get for the blu ray 3D versions, the more they'll reconsider their 3D stance if they're getting reports from the retailers on pre order counts as video games do. If fans enjoyed these films and the 3D, pre order now.

I was expecting mediocre 3D after what folk stated here - but I was plenty surprised by how effective it was; on a scale from 1-10, I'd give it a 7.5

and what a fun sound mix to boot, Dolby Atmos

I guess I had avoided the reviews, but even the trailers really did not give away that much of the plot - I really was quite impressed by it all.

i got out of a IMAX 3D showing of this movie about 2 hours ago and i gotta say, wow, just wow, the 3d does look incredible in that format, combined with 12 thousand watts of great surround sound and crystal clear images on a giant screen, a true IMAX screen (i saw this in), i high recommend to see this in that format. it's worth it.

IMAX-Digital or IMAX-laser (4:3 screen / 12 channel sound)?
