![]() ![]() Alive / Meteor Film will release Bernard Rose's Candyman (1992) on Blu-ray in Germany as a Limited Edition "Mediabook" (DigiBook) on 29 April. At this point, it is't clear whether the master used will be the uncut version, or the cut R-rated version, but it does appear that the release has ported the extras and commentary, which were absent from Universal's BD release. |

The Amazon listing http://www.amazon.de/Candyman-Blu-Ra...s=candyman+blu is claiming uncut status "For the first time on Blu-Ray: The cult movie of 1990, Uncut and only for a short time in limited Mediabook!"

According to this:
http://www.schnittberichte.com/news.php?ID=10343 it's the regular R-rated cut. Funnily Germany actually got the unrated version ages ago - on VHS. It's alternate material only. http://www.schnittberichte.com/schni...ht.php?ID=1900 Last edited by jimidini; 05-22-2016 at 09:26 AM. |

According to movie-censorship, the R-Rated American cut is uncensored, and the often marketed as "uncut" version is the censored German version!! This is complicated. It seems like the only difference is that two shots of the psychiatrist being murdered are replaced with shots of Helen in the wheelchair screaming. I guess we'll have to wait till someone watches it to find out for sure

FYI--According to frighty on the Bluray-disc.de forum, it seems that this release has some very crude and unnecessary German localization that was added to the HD master (I assume by Meteor Film). The title card now carries the German title underneath, and an establishing shot with the text "University of Illinois" has had the original English text blurred (!) and replaced with this:
![]() Quite why that was necessary, I'll never know. |

Just seen this. As it was previously mentioned, it has German titles indeed.
Sad thing is, they had an English master. They blurred the text and put German one over it. Looks horrible and unprofessional for a blu-ray release. Quote:
I think the unrated Nightmare was never released again after that, except for bootleg DVDs. |

Looks like the same master was utilized for the UK and the German. I could see a very slight--yet probably negligible in motion--edge in detail in some shots...but it's probably due to the different encode, sharpening, etc.

Missed this before, but the German's also removed the top and bottom mattes, opening up the frame a bit. I can't decide whether the German has visibly better compression...or whether it's simply been sharpened. Last edited by AllOuttaBubbleGum; 09-14-2016 at 05:16 AM. |
