![]() ![]() WHV Japan will release a two-disc edition of Milos Forman's Amadeus (1984) in Japan on October 19th, 2016. EDIT: The cover art has been corrected to indicate a Blu-ray/DVD set, not two Blu-rays as originally pictured. Last edited by McCrutchy; 08-27-2016 at 02:01 PM. |

The listing at WHV Japan is unclear about whether both cuts of the film will finally be included. What is clear is that some version of additional Japanese dubbing will be added to the Blu-ray (none of the existing Blu-ray or DVD versions of Amadeus contain Japanese dubbing), continuing, it seems, a series that includes a forthcoming special edition of Kelly's Heroes, which can be found here.
Unlike that disc, which appears to be the identical Blu-ray with an optional Japanese dubbed audio track added, the new edition of Amadeus is suddenly two Blu-ray Discs, which of course, begs the question why, since the existing Blu-rays are all 1xBD-50. Seems the picture is wrong - it should be one Blu-ray with the director's cut with the addition of a new Japanese dub + a DVD of the theatrical cut - with the Japanese TV dub and a Japanese audio commentary.
Like the UK "Man Who Fell to Earth" 4 disc set, all the discs were pictured as Blu-rays when it was a BD+2DVD+CD set. The temp artist didnt get the memo. |

It looks like the release is to celebrate the 30th Anniversary of the Japanese TV broadcast of the film, which Japanese Wikipedia says was October 12th, 1986. Fascinating. Am I reading it right, that they recorded a Japanese dub of the Forman/Shaffer commentary for the Japanese LD box set?! I guess that might have been preferable for prestige titles on Japanese LD, due to lack of subtitling options? |

Does the theatrical cut include the English track or is it only the Japanese dub?
