Oooh that's a day one for me! We've waited too long for a decent release over here and Second Sight are more than decent.

Yes, please.

Proper clean-up and remaster of the 4K scan done for the German disc, and if they can throw this on a 4K disc with HDR, that’ll be very tasty.

Day one for me, I love this film. Hopefully it finally gets the treatment it deserves.

Did they ever find the original negatives, so it can finally be remastered and make it look good on blu-ray ?

Yes, the negative was scanned at 4K for the German UHD. The underlying scan is great, it brings out astonishing fine detail. But it’s really rough as they didn’t do any remastering - it’s full of gate weave, scratches, dirt, etc.

Much merriment from the reveal that 101 Films have been trying to license this for the last 5 years.

Dodged that one!

Could have been worse: I saw this at a market screening at MIFED and the guy from Metrodome sitting next to me didn't get it at all and said he'd only think of bidding in a year or so when everyone else had passed and they could get it for peanuts. And a year or so earlier when Sean Bean was attached to the film the financiers I was doing some work with passed on it because they thought it was terrible and didn't believe it could be made for the price (about twice what it eventually cost) and put their money instead into a slate of pictures that bombed, half of them never getting any kind of release at all.

My 4K UHD copy arrives yesterday. Hopefully I won’t need to sell immediately?

Interesting seeing Pathe titles moving elsewhere after The Fifth Element

I don't think I've watched this since it's cinema release almost 20 years ago... it could do with a re-watch ; I remember not thinking much of Sean Pertwee as an actor, until I saw him in this.

It’s only one movie as reference, but Second Sight’s compression of TAKE SHELTER is garbage compared to Sony’s disc of the film, so I’m not counting on this release improving upon the German 4K at all, not that I’ll mind being proven wrong whatsoever.

David M does a lot of their catalogue releases so good chance that Dog Soldiers might be via his capable hands.

Take Shelter may have been done by another authoring house since it’s a much newer film.

The German transfer actually having stabilisation and dirt cleaning would be a start. There's a LOT that Second Sight could do to improve the situation, I've also not been impressed with their compression before (Assault on Precinct 13 being one of them) but they usually get FiM for their more lavish sets and hopefully this will be no exception.

And I gotta say, if there's no 4K then I'll be just fine with said existing transfer properly polished for 1080p and given a David M encode, there's no HDR on the German 4K anyway.
