Hello All
Does anyone have any details about any Blu-ray or DVD releases of the films in the title. I would like to know if there were many releases on DVD, if so which is the best, I don't think these are available on Blu-ray or ever will be. Any info is much appreciated. I used to have both on DVD but I leant them out many moons ago and they were never returned to me. I loved watching these films in my College years, before Jackson was known really. Thank you |

I own pretty much all the DVD editions of Bad Taste, and can say that the US Anchor Bay Entertainment release is the best for picture and audio.
The Australian Universal DVD has an audio commentary with the main cast (minus Jackson) and a couple of other exclusive interviews. It is an NTSC to PAL conversion though, as it's the same transfer as the Anchor Bay release. As for a Blu-Ray release.. well the last we heard about it was in 2009. The cast (minus O'Herne who died in 2010) had a small reunion for Empire Magazine in 2015. |

Regarding "Bad Taste", just make sure whatever version you get has the short doc "Good Taste Made Bad Taste". Despite its short length, it's a great behind-the-scenes doc.
For "Dead Alive", every release is out of print, and the (you're right, fairly expensive) Blu-ray release is the US unrated cut, which is several minutes shorter than the international cut. Supposedly, Peter Jackson now owns the rights to "Bad Taste", "Meet the Feebles", and "Braindead", and he wants to do proper special edition releases for all of them (and "Heavenly Creatures", which I don't think he owns). But he has been expressing that desire for about 20 years now and he didn't do it in the time when "Lord of the Rings" wasn't happening, and he didn't do it when he took time off after "King Kong", so I don't know that I expect him to get to it any time soon. The problem (or a problem, anyway) is that he has hours and hours of behind the scenes footage on all of them, but no time to sort through it all. |
