Default Sony BDP-S580: Beautiful Picture But NO SOUND!!!

I hooked up my BDP-S580 to my Yamaha RX-V667 receiver via 1.4 HDMI cables.
The receiver is hooked up to my Sony KDL60NX720 3D LED HDTV via 1.4 HDMI cable.
Did the firmware updates for both the tv and the blu-ray player.
After set up I popped a BD into the player and hit play.
Beautiful picture but NO SOUND!!!
So I went back and unplugged all the cables and then plugged them back in.
Then I turned everything off in my HT system and then turned everything back on (reboot) and still NO SOUND!!!
What am I doing wrong?

Ok I went to the HDMI: Audio Output menu.
Clicked on "Amp" and it said "Not Available."
Then I clicked on "Out" and it said "Not Available."

WTF!?!?

HDMI Control = Off
ARC = Off

I miss the days when all you had to do was connect your speakers and other equippment to your new receiver, plug it in and press ON.

Now you have to have a degree in electrical engineering from MIT just to figure out how to get sound out of the freaking thing!

This shouldn't be too difficult, but sometimes things can go wrong the first time you hook up a new hdmi device.

I would check the audio settings in the Sony player itself as this may be your issue.

I would also experiment with the order you turn your equipment on. I would suggest doing the display first, then the receiver, and last the bluray. This way the bluray player should "see" the display. Sometimes if it doesn't this can prevent audio from being played back.

I'll also go into the onscreen menu for the Sony blu-ray player and double check the audio settings.

Wouldn't it be so nice to just plug in a new device, correct everything up, hit the play button and be good to go?

Something I should have done from day one.
I disconnected the 1.4 HDMI cable from the HDMI 1 input on the back of my receiver
and connected the cable to the HDMI 2 input.
THAT DID IT!!!
I now have glorious lossless audio.

Now I have another question.
Which screen format setting do I choose: Original or Fixed Aspect Ratio?

I have my BDP-S580 hooked up to a Sony Bravia KDL60NX720 3D LED HDTV with a 60" screen.

◦Original: select when connected to a TV with a wide mode function; displays
a 4:3 screen picture in 16:9 aspect ratio even on a wide-screen TV

◦Fixed Aspect Ratio: changes the picture size to fit the screen size
with the original picture aspect ratio

Input 1 is probably has the Audio Return Channel (ARC) enabled...in which case your TV would default to no Lossless audio. (I do not have a receiver with the ARC function, but to me this would be a useless feature as was probably the case here)

HDMI > Audio Return Channel > Off

p.s. there is no such thing as an HDMI v1.4 cable!

Labeling a cable as v1.3 or 1.4 is not correct.

Unreal, I've worked in IT my whole 40 year career and it's been 30 years since I've seen a solution related to power-up sequence. History just repeated it's self in 2016 and I can't believe that in this day and age a blu-ray player could refuse to produce sound because of the power-up order. Thank you I was about to return the product as defective.
