Default Crackling speakers?

A strange thing happened last night. You know when you press stop once on your player and it goes back to the player menu but you have to press stop again to 'properly' stop it before eject? Well you don't have to but my Panasonic BDT500 seems to have this feature....

Anyway, after the first press my front left and right speakers crackled quite loudly but when I pressed stop again they fell silent as they should be?

Anyone know what could have caused this? Is this likely to be serious and happen often? Speakers were fine during playback, and always have been?

Did this happened just once, or does it happen every time? If it was only once, I wouldn't worry about it.

Was it a digital distortion or a speaker distortion? If it's the former I wouldn't worry about it, but if it was the latter it's worth checking that all your connections are secure.

By digital do you mean sort of beeps and screeches? This was definitely more crackling.

before we go too far, has this happened before with other movies with this player; is it re-creatable?

were you able to make it happen again with the same title and the same player?

how is the audio getting to the receiver, hdmi, optical, digital coax?

has this happened with other equipment connected to your receiver?

have you checked the speaker wiring?

also, list the receiver and other gear you have in your system. give us info so we don't waste time asking all these things. it speeds the process.

OK just tried the same disc again (desperately Seeking Susan, Region A), and this time upon pressing stop no crackling. Everything was fine phew!

This may sound silly but I got a lot of Pop Vinyl's for Xmas and they was stacked in front of my front left speaker, could this have caused it? I know centre speakers are magnetically shielded, could there have been something in the figures material wise that interfered with the front speakers?

No, I don't think the vinyl had anything to do with what had occurred. It could've been just a one time flux, something happened in the unit's circuitry may have caused the defect. Strange things happens sometimes, that no one can explain the why. Everything should be ok now, but if it happens again, then there is something going on.

Thanks for the reply. Static electricity caused by interference from another source? It's the first time it's ever happened and apart from the pop vinyl figure everything else as been near my home theatre set up for ages.

When the weather is cold and the heat is on, the air gets dry and static can form from walking on carpet. You build up a charge and touch a metal button and the static is discharged into the switch. Zap!

Yes the beeps and screeches, usually you'll here it when there's a fault with the disc (sometimes marks on the BD or DVD can cause it).
