Question Which movies are worthy of upgrading to UHD?

Since I just upgraded my system, I want to upgrade some of my movies.
Only I see that some are not up to snuff.
Some are created from 2k masters upconverted to 4k.

Pacific Rim being one, but that one is one of the few that looks better.
Oblivion I hear looks the same or worse. Same goes for Expendables.

Can someone list which ones are upgrade worthy?

Revenant (4K DI)
Sicario (4K DI)
Deadpool (4K DI)
Independence Day (35mm film)
Pacific Rim (2K DI) but the films color is amplified because of HDR making it looking amazing
Star Trek Into Darkness (2K DI) again the use of color with HDR plus the IMAX footage

These are probably the best looking UHD discs.

The Maze Runner is supposedly an upgrade in picture, but Scorch Trials isn't.
True?

Never saw those films. But I did a quick search on google for ya, Maze Runner used a 4K DI and Scorch Trials used a 2K DI. So yes, in theory Maze Runner "should" look better as it is natively 4K, whereas Scorch isn't.

I agree with all of them except ID4, even though it looks nice I would not call it a huge upgrade (I also find the sound a bit lacking).

I would put both the original Ghostbusters movies (35MM) on there as well, those movies look absolutely stunning IMO. The color grade for the first one is beautiful and the level of detail for the second one simply amazing. I really love how these "old" movies look in UHD.

From what I have read, The Shallows (2K) is also reference material but I haven't seen the UHD disc with my own eyes... yet.

I agree with this list except ID4. I would add the below as well.

Shallows
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out Of The Shadows

Really !?! I thought the UHD was night and day compared to the original Blu-ray Disc! If you compared the UHD against the new anniversary bluray then yes I agree, it isn't huge. But that is cause the new disc used the new master and the UHD did as well. But dang! I thought it looked amazing!

Lucy may well be the best looking UHD disk I own, it slightly edges out The Revenant in picture quality. The movie isn't a masterpiece but it is a demo worthy disk if you're looking for pure eye candy.

Honestly, all of the UHD-BDs I viewed to this point are superior to their standard BD versions -- and yes, that includes OBLIVION.

If the question is, "is the improvement big enough?" that answer will vary from person to person.

Did you just make a list of all the UHD discs you own?

For me San Andreas is the most underwhelming UHD experience yet, only marginally sharper during close-ups of faces and the HDR pass is almost not noticable.

Lone Survivor on the other looked great IMO, especially the way how the sun rays shine through the forrest.

^^I'll agree with most of this list. I don't have Independence Day, and don't really plan on it. I'm still waiting on my physical copy of Pacific Rim to arrive, but the Vudu UHD looks amazing. The colors are fantastical.
I have seen bits of Sicario on display, but I'm waiting for it to go on sale since I've already double dipped the regular Blu Ray (Steelbook fetish)
Since it hasn't arrived yet I can only base this off of other reviews, but the Great Gatsby is also supposed to loook really good from the use of HDR on the colors in the movie.

A lot of scenes were shot in IMAX and look gorgeous. But I have t personally compared it to the BD, I just always watch the 4K I don't know how much better it could look tbh

Noted, it has been taken off, and no, my collection is smaller.

Some of the UHD BDs mentioned here were released day-and-date with the regular BDs, so I wouldn't exactly call them upgrades. I would consider upgrades to be when a new version is released later on, like Oblivion or Now You See Me, or even Sicario or The Martian.

But I guess I'm just arguing semantics. The folks here are sharing what the best UHD BDs are that are out right now, and that's good feedback for others. I haven't purchased a UHD BD player yet, but I already own 7 UHD BDs, many of which have been mentioned here.

I imagine the upcoming Ghostbusters (2016) UHD will look pretty great, considering how colorful that film is. Can't wait to find out how good Disney's catalogue will look if and when they enter the UHD market. You'd have to expect them to join in someday to show everyone how it's really done. j/k
