AFAIK 2.0a is just in relation to the ports. Any 2.0 cable will work, and even a 1.4 cable will work fine as long as it's not a super long run.
as far as cables go HDMI is HDMI is HDMI. The only different "kinds" of HDMI cables are those that carry ethernet. |

I went to the Monoprice Redmere 18gbps braided ones awhile back, mainly to save room in the cabinet. They are so much easier to deal with. Cost a little more than say Amazon Basics or MediaBridge, but a lot easier to bend.

Will this first cable work on a 4K tv and UHD player? Specifically HDCP 2.2 and HDMI 2.0?
I notice that it says 4K resolution at 24hz http://www.monoprice.com/StaticConte...rpath=/product However there 18 dollar cable says 4K at 60hz http://www.monoprice.com/StaticConte...rpath=/product |

"The Standard HDMI cable is designed to handle most home applications, and is tested to reliably transmit 1080i or 720p video – the HD resolutions that are commonly associated with cable and satellite television, digital broadcast HD, and upscaling DVD players." Category 2 is High Speed HDMI "The High Speed HDMI cable is designed and tested to handle video resolutions of 1080p and beyond, including advanced display technologies such as 4K, 3D, and Deep Color. If you are using any of these technologies, or if you are connecting your 1080p display to a 1080p content source, such as a Blu-ray Disc player, this is the recommended cable. " There are only 5 types defined and this hasn't changed in about 6 years. see the official HDMI site http://www.hdmi.org/consumer/finding_right_cable.aspx Last edited by Tns49; 02-11-2016 at 12:46 PM. |

There is no such thing as a HDMI 2.0a cable, however there are HDMI 2.0a ports on TV's, AVR's and Pre-Pro's. Although you have to have faster HDMI cable that can pass 18 GBPS, not all HDMI cables can pass information that fast.

So you only need 18gbps cable if you have a 2.0a port? (Hdr panel)

anyone wishing to learn more about 4K HDR UltraHD & HDMI (2.0a) might want to read the very informative article written by David Meyer titled 'The Age of UltraHD' - he is the Director of Kordz (Australia) whom is the 'most informed information source' regarding HDMI known to me, additionally (my personal perspective), Kordz makes the finest engineered and manufactured HDMI cables in the world - again, 'my personal perspective' - judge for yourself
i am including links for the convenience of anyone so inclined to learn more Kordz :: http://www.kordz.com/index.htm white papers :: http://www.kordz.com/library.htm for what it's worth :: this article includes an extensive amount of information regarding both HDMI & UltraHD; all in one comprehensive article by a 'very knowledgeable professional' - leaving anyone reading it with a comfortable knowledge base regarding these two interrelated components of our evolving display interests also :: there is considerable information (multiple articles) further relating to these issues and much more Last edited by jibucha; 02-18-2016 at 06:13 AM. I am confused, but that's really not that surprising.
Here's my tale..... I bought a Sony XBR-65x850c yesterday, and after a day, several strong drinks, and speaking to both Bell Fibe and Sony..... I know less now than when I started.... I am not getting 4K. Bell said that I required the HDMI 2.0 cable and that was likely why I was not getting the 4K. So, since I had some time to kill, I contacted Sony anyway, and they concurred, said without the cable, I will not get the 4K out of my TV, rendering it kinda useless... But from what I am reading here, I shouldn't need any additional or different cables, is that right? So, I know this is not likely the place for this question but, anyone have any idea why I am not getting the 4K? Thanks in advance, Jeff |
