(Jean Rollin, 1997)
Release date: 25 April 2023
Limited Edition 4K UHD (World premiere)

Originally released in 1997, Two Orphan Vampires (Les Deux orphelines vampires) finds Jean Rollin, the master of the fantastique, returning to the vampire genre with which he had made his name.

By day, blind orphans Henriette and Louise seem to be the picture of innocence. But when darkness falls, their sight returns, and they wander the streets of Paris, encountering the city’s strange nocturnal denizens, and leaving a trail of corpses in their quest for fresh blood.

Featuring startling performances from novice leads Alexandre Pic and Isabelle Teboul, alongside Tina Aumont (Modesty Blaise) and Rollin regulars Nathalie Perrey (The Shiver of the Vampires) and Brigitte Lahaie (Fascination), Two Orphan Vampires is a beautiful and melancholy summation of Rollin’s unique and arresting style.

I was thinking about this - Kino released these, or at least distributed these, and now Powerhouse is releasing them on UHD. Some of the Kino discs are no longer available. Some of the Bava titles have gone OOP, I believe. I am starting to ponder if perhaps Powerhouse went after some Bavas as well. Bava on UHD in a package similar to these would be really nice.

It's alright. The poster for this one was pretty bad.

'Cos it looks like they just pulled a still off the internet and slapped it on. At least Shiver of the Vampires got some art.

And is that text actually printed on the front, or is it a sticker/overlay?

I get you. It's funny, because although it's obviously a still or screen grab, I kinda dig it.

The last part I don't know. The only Indicator release I have is a box set, so I'm not sure.

Kino were distributing the Jean Rollin releases for Redemption Films who also did HATCHET FOR THE HONEYMOON. The other Kino Bava’s were Kino proper.

I get an error message for your link but I imagine it is the French release poster which I agree isn't very good.

I went to the Amazon.com page and it didn't give me the note 'this items doesn't ship to your region'. I logged into my account and it still lists it as 'pre-order' so I can order it from Canada.

If anyone wants to create their own combo pack, the BD of Two Orphan Vampires is down a bit below $20 on Amazon at the moment.

I bit. I thought I'd wait for a standard edition to do this, but I think $20 is about as low as Indicator (or Arrow, even) titles get? I know MVD used to have Arrow sales that went down to $10, but last year I waited and waited and the sales were no longer $10 but $20 there, and during sales at places like Diabolik.

That is a fantastic price. I hope the UHD comes down some before release date. Here is a link for those interested.

I've been looking at that site for years. The format doesn't bother me. Maybe I'm just used to it. Also, if you're mostly interested in the disc review you can skip towards the bottom to avoid synopsis and previous release details.

Just wondering here now that I notice it.

Both Indicator 4Ks mention being sourced from internegative. For the Redemption releases, Shiver mentions coming from 35mm negative and Orphan mentions being from 16mm negative. What explains this?
